GingerPresident's Message

I presume you all are watching the national news and are closely following Republican candidates as they step forward to hold Democrats responsible for their failed polices and set the stage for victory in 2012.

President Obama is taking our country in the wrong direction and we must change course for the sake of our future generations. We need to make sure he is a one-term president. Here at home we all need to work to defeat Mark Begich in 2014 and take back our State Senate in 2012.

We had a great turnout for the luncheon on board the Holland America ship ms Statendam. Forty members and guests were treated to a tour of the ship, followed by a fabulous lunch. Don't miss it next year!

Please be sure and plan to attend our Sensational Salad Saturday event at Shari Grant's home on September 10th. Alaska Federation of Republican Women President Rhonda Boyles will be our speaker and there will be lots of great auction items.

On a personal note, I recently saw Woody Allen's latest movie 'Midnight in Paris'. It has been called his best film in years. One review said, "It's a movie that will delight lovers of Paris, literature, art and film." I recommend it if you're looking to be entertained for a couple of hours!

Finally, as we approach the tenth anniversary of 9/11 please keep the fallen, their families, and all who defend our country in your thoughts and prayers.

Why does CCRW have garage and used clothing sales, door prize drawings and silent auctions? It's grassroots fundraising at its simplest! By cleaning out your cupboards, closets or garages or using your spare change for door prize tickets, we keep the coffers full. It's amazing how fast those dollars add up. We're able to fund our special projects and more because of your generosity each month. We're grateful for your participation and always welcome your ideas for new ways we can all "Pitch in for Politics!"

Dear CCRW,

Spoke to my son today! They are away from the camp and living in some kinda sand hut, no air conditioning, has only had a shower once this week! They are only eating MRE's and bottled water that is not cold. Sounds like they are really roughing it! They do get their packages because once a week someone goes to base camp for supplies. There are 19 of them, they at this time are building a base out in the middle of farmland.

The following items would be helpful Chap stick, wipes (as showers are few), and disposable toothbrushes. They do not  have  access to much. So whatever you send it will be appreciated.

I know he loves his job and doesn't complain but I wonder if people really understand what a sacrifice they make for our freedom. Hope all is well with you !

Sincerely,

Betty Anderson

I've been fortunate to have been a member of the CCRW for the past eight years. I enjoy being a part of this group, the activities are fun and so is the company! As a bonus, our activities support Republican candidates and related issues in which I strongly believe.

I have a Native American background.  I was born in Oklahoma and raised with traditional Creek Indian values such as respect for your elders, the earth and your family. I was taught to work hard to reach my goals and help others when I'm able. I enjoyed dressing in regalia, dancing in pow wows, watching dance contests and having traditional foods. My Dad is Athabascan and lives in Upper Kalskag.  My grandfather was a German immigrant and early settler in Upper Kalskag.  He was mayor there a long time ago, as was my Dad and currently my Aunt Betty is mayor.

At one point, my Mom decided to come to Alaska to visit her sisters. Like so many visitors, she decided to stay. I graduated from Juneau Douglas High school and went off to college for a year but ended up needing to work full time in order to make ends meet. I've been working in state government for 23 years, 13 years with the State of Washington and the past 10 with the State of Alaska. I'm an Administrative Officer II for the SE Region of the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities. We manage a budget of about $32 million to design, build and maintain the roads and highways in SE Alaska. I like working for DOT&PF and enjoy the tangible results of our work.

One of the activities of CCRW that I've always been involved in is the decorating of the Governor's House for Christmas. While it's a lot of work, I consider it to be an honor and revel in the beauty of the historical home every time I go inside. Hope to see you all there this November!

CCRW Member Runs for Assembly

My name is Genoveva "Geny" Del Rosario.  I am running for the Assembly and wanted to introduce myself.  I was born in the Philippines and earned a Bachelors Degree from the University Of Santo Tomas, Manila. In 1987 I was a recipient of a Rotary International program to the State of Virginia. I then immigrated to California and became a realtor - later moving to Nevada where I was appointed Philippine Tourism Coordinator and also ran for Nevada State Assembly.

In 2004 we visited Alaska and I fell in love with Juneau. In 2005 I started Crowne Travel crew shuttle and also became a licensed childcare provider and foster parent. Today my sister and I operate the Manila Sunset Grill House.

Community Service is my passion. I have spent twenty years volunteering. I was president of the Philippine Chamber in Nevada and was a member of the Nevada State College Diversity Council Advisory Committee.

I am a member of the Juneau Human Rights Commission, Board Member/P.R.O. Filipino Community INC,  League of Women Voters, the Filipino-American Association and am also a proud member of Capital City Republican Women.

I believe diversity is key to unity. Diversification is essential to growth and prosperity. I believe in good government. As public servants we have a fiduciary responsibility to manage the city's financial resources, hold the line on taxes and use our resources wisely.

Even Big Labor is Complaining
About Big Gov

"As 9.1 percent unemployment plagues America this Labor Day, major unions are clashing with a Democratic administration with which they normally would march in lock-step. Echoing the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, at least eight unions are begging Team Obama to abandon regulations, statements, and procedures that prevent jobs from being created or saved."

Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them.
