"To keep a lamp burning we have to keep putting oil in it." -- Mother Teresa

Greetings!

If you've ever considered planting a Mary Garden, May is the perfect time. A Mary Garden is a garden filled with flowers, plants and trees named for Our Lady and Jesus, designed to be a place of beauty that reminds us of our Lord and our Lady, allows us to experience God's creation, and invites prayer and contemplation.
Just a few of the many plants that you could plant in such a garden include Baby's Breath (Our Lady's Veil), Columbine (Our Lady's Shoes), Marigold (Mary's Gold), Morning Glory (Our Lady's Mantle), Petunias (Our Lady's Praises), Sweet Pea (Our Lady's Flower), and Larkspur (Mary's Tears). Of course, roses, lilies, and iris are always appropriate as well! There's a wonderful book on the subject, Mary's Flowers: Gardens, Legends, and Meditations, which is a great resource (and a lovely gift) for anyone interested in this subject. The Mary's Garden Web site is also a good place to learn more about creating a Mary Garden.

May God bless you throughout the lovely month of May,

Ann

If you're looking for something special for Mom this year, check out our new line of music boxes from Cottage Garden. When these elegant music boxes are opened, a glass enclosure lets you see the musical movement as it plays. Cottage Garden uses only Sankyo brand movements, the highest quality available, so you will always hear clear, consistent melodies.

Don't forget that books make great gifts too!

Year of the Priest

Pope Benedict XVI has declared a year of the priest in an effort to encourage "spiritual perfection" in priests. The pope will open the special year with a vespers service at the Vatican June 19 -- the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the day for the sanctification of priests. He will close the celebrations during a World Meeting of Priests in St. Peter's Square June 19, 2010.

During this jubilee year, the pope will also proclaim St. John Vianney to be patron saint of all the world's priests. At present he is considered the patron saint of parish priests.

We are blessed with many wonderful priests - keep them in your prayers, always!
