What's happening at the SUPer FEST ?
( 2010 Whitecap SUP demo day at East Beach on St Simons. All events originate in front of the Surf Sailors "boatyard". Directions below. )
1.) YOGA on BOARD -- 8:30am
1 hour land and water session led by Chuck Hardin, certified yoga
instructor. Limited boards available; email for reservation or bring your own. Most SUP boards have built-in yoga mats! No yoga experience necessary, but for water portion, past board experience would be a good idea.
2.) Beach Sweep -- 10:00am
Show the beach some love! The Coastal Georgia/Low Country Chapter of SurfRider Foundation is setting up this sweep. PRIZES for "Weirdest Item" and "Largest Plastic Item". Have fun while setting a good example. If you believe in protecting what you love, JOIN Surfriders!
3.) Paddle n' Ride- 11 to 5:00pm
Open demo of any models we have. No obligation. Free instruction. See what size works best for you. Try the newest RACE shapes, too! Experienced stand up paddleboarders can also paddle to small waves at the East Beach point about 200 yards away.
4.) Paddle n' SURF -- 3:30pm**
Introduction to stand up wave surfing! For first-timers in waves. If conditions allow, Whitecap instructor will accompany you to paddle the short distance to East Beach point for waves on the sand flats -- best place to surf your 1st time! Easy on a SUP! Excellent instruction. Limited space. (** Fee applies to this activity: $10/person. Sign up at Whitecap canopy on the beach the day of, or reserve space by email or phone now.)
5.) Cookout -- 6pm untill...
Hang out in the Surf Sailors boatyard! Music, burgers, dogs, beverages ...and great folks who love the water! What more could you want?!
The St Simons Surf Sailors are our host.
>> Event site and directions: At 4100 First Street E. St Simons Island, GA 31522 On East Beach at the Coast Guard Station in front of the St. Simons Surf Sailors fenced boatyard. You may drive all the way directly toward the ocean through the parking lot through the gate into the boatyard to unload people and gear, but then return to the parking area to repark. (If parking lot is full, officers may be stopping all traffic. Just tell them you are going into the Surf Sailors boatyard and they will let you through.) See map here.
This event is family friendly. However, on-the-water activities may be restricted for children and youth 16 years of age and under -- at our discretion -- due to liability/insurance concerns and availability of boards. This event is intended to be a demo opportunity for newcomers and experienced individuals, including kids, not as simply a day of entertainment for the kids.
