Independent Trainers
Greetings!

With the launch of Quality Matter's (QM) new logo, the rebirth of the QM Newsletter, and its first Annual Conference just around the corner, this spring is shaping up to be quite exciting for the QM community. Of course, the training team is contributing to the excitement as well with the initiation of our first monthly newsletter, exclusively for QM- and independent trainers.

Our goals are to provide more communication channels and to work with you so that, together, we continue to enhance QM's professional development opportunities.

What's New at QM?

New Trainer's Institute

In May, we inaugurated the first New Trainer's Institute, a program designed to provide more QM-based trainers. The first session focuses on the Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR) and Peer Reviewer Certification (PRC) courses. The second session, scheduled to run in July, will focus on other QM-based courses and workshops.

Adoption of Sliding Stipend Scales

In August, 2009, QM will implement a sliding stipend scale for all online courses except Applying the QM Rubric (APP/PRC), Train the Trainer (TTT), and the Master Reviewer's Training (MRT) coureses, all of which will continue with their current stipend rate.

The following stipend scale will apply to Standard 1: Design that Welcomes Your Students; Standard 2: Measurable Learning Objectives at the Course and Module Levels; Standard 6: Choosing and Using Media Effectively; Standard 8: Accessibility; Building Your Online Course; and Improving Your Online Course:

5-9 participants:     $270
10-14 participants: $420
15-20 participants: $600

The Peer Reviewer Certification (PRC) course will use the following scale:

5-9 participants:     $225
10-14 participants: $350
15-20 participants: $500

Remember to Send QM Your Rosters!

Participants interested in taking the Peer Reviewers' Certification (PRC) course need to have completed the Applying the QM Rubric course. Remember that you need to submit your rosters for workshops that you conduct within one week of completing the workshop. Right now, it's easiest if you submit those rosters via e-mail to Diane Jackson (djackson@qualitymatters.org). We're working on developing a more automated system, but it's not ready yet; we'll keep you informed as to its progress.
If you would like more information about QM training opportunities, please contact Nadine Smith (nsmith@qualitymatters.org) or call 301-974-5825.
