Call it Spring Fever, March Madness, or Cabin Fever... this time of year yearns for a change.  It's time to put those bulky sweaters away and put your best face forward to greet those wonderful upcoming Spring and Summer months.

In addition to a variety of non-surgical facial cosmetic treatments, Dr. Van Raalte also gives patients the option of filling wrinkles, lines, and sunken areas in the face and hands with fat transfer or fat grafting.  Dr. Van Raalte has been performing this procedure for over 5 years and has been keeping up with the latest techniques and developments with this procedure.

Fat grafting fills facial features with a patient's own fat.  The fat used for fat transfer is extracted from the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks and injected into another area that requires volume enhancement and contouring.

The advantage of fat grafting is that the fat comes from the patient's own body.  Patients cannot develop an allergic reaction such as those that may occur when external implant substances are introduced into the body.  The body naturally accepts the injected fat.  It is becoming more dependable in most patients and convenient since most people of average weight have more than enough fat tissue to be used in facial procedures.

"Many of our patients for fat grafting have previously undergone treatment with fillers and the fat transfer is a very economical way to add multiple syringes of a natural 'filler' that lasts longer in most cases.  Fat is good for a volume effect to restore the lost volume with aging.  It is helpful for those that are not ready for, or do not quite need a facelift, or for additional rejuvenation after a previous facelift.  It restores the natural appearance and helps avoid the operated look."  Contact Christina if you would like more information about this procedure.
Iowa Plastic Surgery and the Community Boy Scouts
This is Dr. Van Raalte's 7th year as the First Aid Merit Badge Clinic Medical Coordinator.  Dr. Van Raalte coordinates Genesis-Illini employees and Genesis Health System physicians to lead the clinic and provide hands on training and education to area Boy Scouts.

The clinic at Genesis-Illini Hospital will help over 100 Quad City area Boy Scouts earn their First Aid or Medicine Merit Badges on Saturday, March 7th.  The all-day clinic will train and test the Scouts on how to recognize and treat medical conditions for First Aid or educate them about various medical careers for Medicine Merit Badge.
