Happy New You!

New Year toasting

True Beauty comes from within... but there may be times when we need a little help due to unwanted features caused by heredity, environmental damage, trauma, and aging.

What are the general types of plastic surgery and procedures?

Plastic surgery generally includes:
  • Reconstructive surgeryReconstructive surgery is typically performed to improve a noticeable scar, skin condition, or malformed body part caused by injury, surgery, disease, or a birth defect.  These conditions can have a strong impact on your day-to-day life, affecting social, employment, and recreational opportunities as well as your self-esteem.

  • Elective cosmetic surgery.  You may seek cosmetic surgery if you are unhappy with some aspect of your appearance, such as a large nose, small breasts, wrinkles, or "love handles."  These kinds of flaws don't bother everyone who has them, some people wouldn't consider them flaws at all, but for some, they can affect self-image and confidence.  Cosmetic surgery is one way to address them.

Nonsurgical cosmetic procedures typically include those that enhance your appearance such as: injection therapy with Botox®, soft tissue fillers like Restylane, laser skin resurfacing, deep chemical peels, nonsurgical skin tightening  and cellulite treatment with Thermage.  Other common nonsurgical procedures include light-based treatments to remove sunspots (e.g., Intense Pulsed Light or IPL), microdermabrasion, light skin peels, spider vein treatment, and laser hair reduction.

"If you didn't quite fulfill your last New Year's resolution to look your best, now is the time to get plastic surgery done, while there's enough time for healing before summer", according to Dr. Van Raalte.
Many people take the time in the New Year to make resolutions by committing to positive changes in their lives, including their appearance.
