On the GO at Asbury University

Friends,

Here's a quick story about our recent outreach to the Asbury campus.

The weatherman's prediction of only a 10% chance of rain might have been a little off, but that didn't stop the students of Asbury coming to enjoy an outdoor ministry fair on the campus' famous semi-circle. Each year Asbury kicks off the new school year with a gathering where mission organizations, campus clubs, and local churches come together on the university's front lawn to encourage students to find their "niche" and get involved.  GO InterNational was a part of the action, giving away free t-shirts and cookies, and inviting the students to explore missions with GO.

GO was recently named as one of the five official mission ministries serving the University. At the ministry fair, GO was able to reach out to the students, show them that they care, and that they want to invest in them.

And the students responded very well to that.  Lots of students signed up to be added to GO's contact list, and of course what college student wouldn't be thrilled about free cookies?  But the free t-shirts were what really piqued the student's interest and caused them to swamp GO's booth.  When asked what she thought about receiving a free t-shirt, Kristen Cory said, "I'm very excited and I feel very well loved." Joyce Chu said, "After getting this shirt I can now help make GO InterNational better known."

Several connections like this were made between the students and staff. Whether it was just receiving a free t-shirt, more information on GO and its mission, or discussing the cross cultural requirement, (each student is required to complete a mission trip) GO was able to show the students of Asbury University they care and want to serve them.

The best moments are when students realize that that GO can help them pursue their passion for missions. One such student was Amanda Brinkman.  Amanda is a Missions major and plans to be a full-time missionary in Nicaragua.  She has spent the last two summers there and was thrilled to see that GO does a lot of mission work there as well.  "I'm really excited," she said.  Amanda is hoping to explore her options through GO and hopefully God will again use GO to help a person pursue their passions.

The main goal for GO InterNational at the fair was to reach out to the students and show them that they care, and want to invest in them. If the sea of pink, green and yellow GO International t-shirts was any indication - that goal was accomplished.
