Not far from the city of Chincha, Peru there is a small village called Alto Laran. Chincha and the entire region suffered a terrible earthquake in 2007. Signs of that disaster are still everywhere. GO InterNational assisted the people and churches of Chincha after that disaster and the relationships remain strong today. At the Mission Vina Del Ray church there is new construction and kids playing and all kinds of signs of life. Julio and his wife Percia are the pastors in this poor neighborhood and they are inviting children and adults to receive new life in Christ every week. There are also soccer games and youth gatherings and children's bible schools on the grounds.
A GO InterNational team traveled recently to Chincha to help minister alongside our long time partner, Gerardo Guzman, his wife Percia. Gerardo oversees an extended family of pastors, children's workers and cell group leaders that is seeking to share the love of Jesus across Chincha and its outskirts. There is a steady flow of People leaving the Andes Mountains and coming down into the cities seeking jobs and a better life. Thousands of these families end up in slums full of make shift huts without electricity or running water. With help from GO supporters like you, Gerardo and company descend on these slums to bring a cup of milk and a roll to children and to share the bread of Life and Jesus' love.
This particular GO team was from The River United Methodist Church in Richmond, Texas. Pastor Jim Martin and his wife Teri helped give leadership to the group.
The team built Sunday school classrooms, taught English in the local schools, and shared the Gospel through drama, testimonies and songs. One of the special things about this team was that three of the team members were Argentinean and fluent in Spanish. There were also expert teachers, a worship leader, youth pastor and decent carpenters. It created a great combination of skills that translated into an effective team that not only built and taught, but led a number of children and adults to the Lord and encouraged many believers as well. The team went door to door each afternoon inviting children and adults to a dramatic presentation in the town square. There were often 60 children and 20 or more adults at the presentation and adults and children responded at each village we visited.
Thank you for supporting GO's ministry through your prayers and financial gifts! Your gifts are feeding the hungry with milk, a roll and the Bread of Life, Jesus!
Blessings to you!
