Uganda Medical Mission

Cinthia in Uganda

Happy Friday to you!

The tumor over his clavicle had been growing for several months.  This man was in pain, having difficulty working and even wearing a shirt due to the size of it.  What was it?  Would he die from it?  How could he ever get help living his small village in rural Uganda?

Praise the Lord, God was able to use our recent medical team to Namasujju, Uganda to meet this man at his point of need.  We were blessed to have with us Dr. Mike Rowell, a surgeon from Bristol, TN.  He evaluated the man and felt he had a large lipoma, a type of benign fatty tumor.  However it needed to be removed due to it's size and rapid growth.  Although he would have preferred an operating room for the procedure, Dr. Mike used a make-shift procedure room in a small side-room of the recently constructed church which still had a dirt floor.  Dr. Rowell was able to remove the tumor with local anesthesia and a few simple instruments we had brought.

Although he was frightened, the man did well through the procedure.  He returned the next day for his post-operative check and was feeling much better.  His wound looked good.  That Sunday he attended the church at Namasujju for the first time, giving thanks to Dr. Rowell, the church and mostly to the Lord for what had taken place.  We are praising the Lord for what he did through our team to touch this man for God's glory in Namasujju.

The villages of Bulyaake parish in Uganda where the GO InterNational/Safeworld Nexus team is working are full of great needs.  Our team went there to distribute mosquito nets for malaria prevention, do some health teaching, and conduct a medical clinic.  We were able to see 657 patients, some of whom were quite ill.  We were able to work closely with a new church plant in Namasujju where we held the clinic.  It is encouraging to see the church ministering in such a holistic way to the community.

There is still much to be done.  Many villages lack clean water. We have completed two wells and a third well is under construction. Each community where a well is dug also receives health and sanitation training. We are hoping the next step will be implementation of a Community Health Evangelism program.  Pastor Timothy and our partner Africa Renewal Ministries have a vision for completing the new church building and addressing the need for better education, medical care and care for orphans.  Please consider being a part of meeting this need by praying, giving financial support and by going with us on future teams.

We still need people to go with us on upcoming medical mission teams.  Please consider getting involved this year.  We can use people from all backgrounds, including non-medical people to help with many aspects of our medical teams. Here are three medical team opportunities in 2011.

June 12-21 Lamud, Peru

July 16-24 Bogota, Columbia

October 8-21 2011 Hetada, Nepal
