Greetings!

Here is a quick story from Dr. Larry Frick about God's grace on a recent GO medical mission trip. I think you'll enjoy it!

A Divine Interruption

I was seeing patients with our GO medical team in Lima, Peru.  We were very busy and I was trying to see patients as quickly as I could and still provide good, compassionate care.  My wife Marci, who was helping in the pharmacy, came to me with a problem. I had to leave my patient, Irma, with my translator, Esther Ledesma, while I went to solve the problem. When I returned, I sensed something had changed.  During my brief time away, Esther had led Irma to faith in Jesus Christ.

Marci felt bad for interrupting the visit and I was trying to take care of the matter as quickly as possible so we could get on with Irma's medical care, but God had other plans.  His timing, as always, was perfect and this day the angels in heaven were rejoicing over Irma's salvation.

This was a fairly common occurrence during our time in Lima. We went as a GO medical team to Lima in July to serve our partner, Wilma Grandez.  We've been working with Wilma in her ministry to poor children and abused women in the Comas slums for about 8 years, but this was our first medical team there.

Our team saw 867 medical and dental patients in about one week. We gave primary care evaluations, medications, dental care and procedures.  We also provided fluoride treatments and community health education.  Our team included three doctors, two dentists, two medical students, a nurse, a dental assistant, and three translators.  We also had a Peruvian dentist and several doctors from a local hospital joining our team.

Although our team met physical needs and showed many people tangible evidence of the love of God, the long-term impact was much greater than the medicines we dispensed.  When we reach out to hurting people to help meet their physical needs, they are more open to what we say about the God who we serve. Because of our team's presence, many people like Irma came to the Lord.  Many others were introduced to Wilma's ministry.  They will return to the center in the future and will experience the ministry provided by Wilma and her team.  Only God knows the fruit that will come in the days ahead.

This is another example of how our medical ministry assists our international partners.  We hope you'll consider joining us on a GO InterNational medical team soon. We need doctors, nurses, dentists, and many non-medical helpers to go with us on future trips. Come join us as we do our part to help fulfill the Great Commission.
Thanks for taking time to read this. May God bless you richly!

Sincerely,

Bert Jones
