"Go and make disciples of all nations...baptizing them."
This past March a small GO InterNational team returned to Colombia for a week of ministry with Pastor Guillermo, our ministry partner in Colombia.
Pastor Guillermo is involved in an exciting, holistic work that focuses on the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of the poor of the poor in Bogotá.
Six days a week the ministry is feeding over 2,000 children in five feeding centers throughout the slums of Bogotá. It was an amazing joy to help prepare the food and serve it to that many children. We also taught Bible lessons to the children who visit the feeding center each day.
Our team washed hair, cleaned fingernails, gave out Bibles, painted rooms and built relationships with the people in the community and church. We also preached, trained pastors and leaders, played in the worship band, and gave testimony of our love for Christ. But the highlight for me was the Sunday afternoon event on the schedule.
Our Sunday schedule included ministry in 5 services across the city. Pastor Guillermo told me that we were going to rent the city pool for baptisms. As we walked into that crowed center for recreational activity-it soon became a Holy sanctuary.
I preached that afternoon beside the city swimming pool on the significance of Christian baptism. Lined up on one side of the pool were 19 young people dressed in white robes and ready to make a public profession of faith in the waters of baptism. After I preached, one by one each gave a personal witness to the life transforming power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
"In the Authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and in obedience to the Great Commission, I baptize you in the name of the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit." As I spoke those words 19 times that afternoon in the pool, I began to gain a greater sense of the fulfillment of the Great Commission. I realized going is the first part of the Great Commission-making disciples and baptizing them is the rest of the contract.
It is a joy to know that through your support of GO InterNational and our teams-The Gospel is going forth to all Nations. People are growing in discipleship and being baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Please continue to pray that the Great Commission will be completed. It is our desire at GO to be going into all the world, making disciples and baptizing believers.
