Widely respected as one of the world's foremost fingerstyle guitarists and harp-guitarists, Muriel Anderson is the first woman to have won the National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship. She is host of the renowned "Muriel Anderson's ALL STAR GUITAR NIGHTŪ" and founder of the Music for Life Alliance charity. Muriel Anderson is both an artist advisor and a generous supporter of GITC's work and has been helping us grow for over a decade. Her non-profit the Music for Life Alliance has long funded special programs with GITC such as this year's teacher trainings in Mississippi for HeadStart teachers, and GITC's work with the United Nations to bring music integration to developing nations.
Proceeds will benefit GITC's free teacher training programs in the Chicago area, the foremost goal being teacher training on the North Shore.
Guitars in the Classroom's mission is to inspire, train and equip Pre-Kinder through 8th grade teachers to provide daily hands-on music integration that transforms classrooms into vibrant, creative, and effective learning environments.
In GITC's free workshops, teachers learn to sing with confidence, play guitar, lead songs, and to select, teach, and facilitate the student writing of educational songs. This daily integration of music with academic learning provides positive, inspiring musical access for all students as part of the regular school day.
GITC has been training teachers in Chicago for over three years and in Evanston since last Spring. The organization has plans to grow programs in order to serve more teachers and students in the area in the 2011-2012 school year.
