GITC Receives 2009-2010 NAMM Grant
NAMM Foundation Grant supports the continued growth of Guitars In The Classroom™ and its efforts to bring music integration to America's classrooms.
(July 1, 2009, Solana Beach, CA)-Jessica Baron, founder and Executive Director of Guitars In The Classroom™, has announced that the groundbreaking music integration program has been selected as a recipient of a major grant from the NAMM Foundation. The 2009-2010 NAMM Grant marks the fifth consecutive year that GITC has received an award from the prestigious music products industry association and brings the total amount of NAMM support to more than $235,000 over the five-year period.

"We offer our profound gratitude to the NAMM Foundation on behalf of everyone involved in our 'Strum & Sing' and 'AMIGO' teacher training programs-and anyone touched by NAMM's generous support for creating new music makers," says Jessica. "NAMM Grants have been critical to the development and success of GITC. They have fueled our efforts to bring the enjoyment and benefits of music making to over half a million children each year. In the coming school year, with more than just a little help from our friends, we will be able to further develop The AMIGO Project, a program designed to give teachers of English Language Learners the tools they need to boost their students' language and literacy skills in English and help close the 'achievement gap' through integrated, song-based instruction."

GITC was one of 31 recipients of the NAMM Foundation's 2009-2010 grants program, which allocated an unprecedented total of $848,807 in funding to support community music-making programs, scientific research on the effects of making music, and music programs for seniors, college students and school-aged children. The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit organization with the mission of advancing active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs from the international music products industry.
