Council Cabinet want to close Culverhay
Campaigners and opposition Councillors have expressed their frustration and
disappointment following B&NES Cabinet's decision to continue with the plan to close Culverhay School. Will spoke up for Cluverhay at a Scrutiny Panel "call in" in July which sent the decision back to a Cabinet meeting. Will was unable to be at that Cabinet meeting, but several other Liberal Democrat Councillors and members of our community spoke at meeting
to try and persuade the Cabinet to listen to the wishes of the local
community and to rethink the proposals. They didn't. Click here to see the message Will sent to the members of the Cabinet before the meeting. We would encourage
residents to join in the fight to save Culverhay School and that it be
allowed to become a coeducational school serving our community in the south west of the
City. Sign the School petition: http://rpx.me/Utkb

More trees and planting needed at St. John's School
|
|
Oldfield Lane
Sadly, the trees that were reported saved in the last enews had to be cut down when excavations on site showed that the trees had been planted on a concrete plinth and were potentially unstable. Although new trees have been planted, they are not positioned to block the view of the the Business Centre from Second Avenue. Will is in touch with the School to see if some additional trees and shrubs can be planted. PS: Oldfield Lane is due to be resurfaced (including the pavements) in the next couple of weeks. |

Christmas Lights still at risk
In recent years Christmas lights on Moorland Road have always been provided by the Moorland Road Association, but unfortunately the MRA ceased to exist earlier this year, throwing the Christmas lights in to doubt. Moorland Road is the only shopping centre in Bath and North East Somerset that doesn't get its Christmas lights provided by the Council. Will said: "I'm really grateful to the one person who offered to help with this problem, but I'd love others to come forward and help in any way they can to help make sure we get Christmas lights on Moorland Road this year." Shop changes
Busy Fingers have moved to the old Thresher's. There's now a Polish Shop
in the old Bread Basket. Happily, Herbies Fish and Chips is going to
re-open in September. Hurrah! Change of type of use - an appealAn application to change the old Busy Fingers shop in to an office was refused by the Council - but the applicant has appealed. Both Will and Shaun support the Council's decision to refuse the application because we belive that Moorland Road is all about shops and not more Estate Agents. Allotments on Moorfields Estate?
|
|
Council's outline consultation
In July the Council consulted local residents about its plans to turn the two green spaces between Cotswold Road and Moorfields Road in to allotments. We've had a mixed reaction from residents about this. Some are strongly against, whilst some are strongly in favor. If you haven't been in contact yet please let us know your views. We understand that the Council has not taken a firm decision about whether to put together more detailed plans and do a second round of consultation. Will has insisted to the Council that if it wants to take the plans any further a public meeting must be held so that all views can be aired. |
PACT Meeting update |
|
At the meeting on the 7th July the following three priorites were agreed:1. Fly tipping in the alleyway between First and Second Avenue. 2. Problems in Poplar Close and Monksdale Road with the some residents of the flats. 3. Ongoing communication issues between University/Student residents and other residents of Oldfield Park. The next Oldfield PACT meeting will be: - 17th November 6:30pm at St Alphage's Parish Hall (The new one!) |
Planning Applications | |
New applicationsUse the links below to go to the Council's planning system where you can see the applications and comment on them. It's always best to make
comments as soon as possible as there is always an expiry date after
which comments may not be taken in to account. 2 Cotswold Road - Alterations to vehicular access and boundary wall
15 Cotswold Road - Erection of a single storey rear infill extension, first floor rear and side extension
25 The Oval - Erection of two storey side extension
Finally, Tesco have now formally submitted their application for the Bath Press
site. Will and Shaun are both concerned about the impact the development
may have on Moorland Road. Follow this link to the Tesco Application
