| Technical Tip: Cleanliness is Key!
Oxides and salts build up around skimmer and sample cone orifices over time. This can alter signal responses and decrease the sensitivity of the instrument. Cones should be periodically cleaned by sonicating in a diluted detergent mix, then soaking in either water or a 2% HNO3 solution (depending on manufacturer's recommendation), rinsing with deionized water, and then drying. Never use a metal wire or other probe to clean the cone orifice.
