Technical Tip
Question: What could be causing low recoveries in my control standards?
Answer: The control standard used in 1664A is an equal ratio of stearic acid and hexadecane. Hexadecane can be volatilized and lost during the evaporation step if the QuikVap is heated to a temperature that causes the hexane to boil. If you are not sure if your QuikVap is too hot or not, pour a standard directly into a pan or flask and evaporate off. If you have low recoveries your QuikVap temperature is probably set too high.
