Family Trip to Edaville Railroad
December 27, 2:30-8:30pm
Join us on an exciting trip to Edaville USA in Carver, MA. The Festival of Lights features millions of lights and displays in a spectacular holiday celebration. Visitors can ride the heated train past an explosion of holiday lights and decorations, listen to carols, and enjoy all of the outdoor rides and attractions that make Edaville USA a New England tradition! Bus leaves from the Albemarle Field House. $30.00

Family Movie Night at West Newton Cinema
December 29 & 30
Enjoy a movie, popcorn and drink all for only $6.00. Tickets will be sold starting at the West Newton Cinema on the day of the event. This is a popular event and tickets may sell out.

Puddlestompers
December 28, 29 and 30, 9:00 am - noon
A drop off program for 3 - 6 year olds.. Explore the beauty and quiet of winter in this indoor based program. Learn about how animals survive the winter and why evergreens keep their leaves. Look for animal tracks and other signs of winter activity. Each day will explore a different aspect of nature in winter. Located at Nahanton Park.

Fun-tastic Vacation Program

For Grades K - 2 at the Newton Centre Hut.
For Grades K - 6 at the Lower Falls Community Center
It's like summer camp in the winter. Several different activities to choose from each day including sports, arts and crafts, gym activities, inside games, cooking, outside games, special events and more. Be sure to bring a lunch and snack each day. 8:15AM -3:30PM with extended day available to 5:30PM. $45.00 per day or $160.00 for all 4 days. Add $12.50 per day for extended day.

Thundercat All Sports Clinic
December 28, 29, 30 and 31
Half Day Program for Ages 5 - 7, Full Day Program for Ages 7 - 12. For the sports enthusiast. Play a variety of games including basketball, floor hockey, soccer, and more - all in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Located at Pelligrini Park. Be sure to bring a lunch and snack each day. Half Day Program - 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon. $120.00 for residents/$130.00 non-residents.  Full Day Program - 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. $160.00 residents/$170.00 non-residents.

Newton Youth Players Announces its 2010-11 Season
Get your child involved in musical theatre.  "My Fair Lady" is on tap for summer 2010; "Guys and Dolls" will be staged in the fall of 2010; "Peter Pan" in the winter of 2011, and "My Fair Lady" in the spring of 2011.  These programs fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged.  Rehearsals held at Newton Cultural Center, 225 Nevada Street on Tuesdays 3:30-5:00 and Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:15.  Classes for Grades 3-7 held Mondays 4-5:30.  Children's theatre company for elementary school children grades 1-5.  For further info and to register: 617-796-1540 or www.newtonyouthplayers.com.

History book club
Tuesday, November 17, 7:30 pm
The book club will meet for its bimonthly discussion of a work of social history. This meeting's selection is The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal by David McCullough. The book club is free and new members are always welcome.

2nd Annual Newton Preservation Awards
November 19, 6:30-8:30 pm
You are invited to attend the Second Annual Newton Preservation Awards. These awards recognize projects which feature the preservation of Newton's historic buildings and landscapes and promote awareness of Newton's historic fabric. The Newton Preservation Awards are an opportunity to celebrate those individuals that have chosen preservation as a sustainable reinvestment in the Newton community. Concerts in the Kitchen with singer, songwriter and storyteller Claudia Nygaard

Straddling the genres of Country and Folk music, Claudia's songs find their roots and rhythms in the Americana storytelling tradition, and her melodies are passionate and emotional. 1st Annual Turkey Raffle

The Diane K. Trust Center for Early Education of Temple Ohabei Shalom, 1187 Beacon St., Brookline, serves children ages 2.9 - 5 years of age in both half and full-day programs with extended care available.  The Center provides the building blocks for each preschooler to develop a love of learning that will serve as the basis for a personal journey of discovery and wonder. The Newton Department of Public Works is preparing a list of STUDENTS (or adults) willing to shovel snow for your local senior residents for a fee. Can YOU please help out?

Students/participants should be aware
  • When you sign to be on this list, your name, village and phone # will be made available to those residents, often the elderly, needing assistance w/snow shoveling.
  • Under age 18 should check with parent(s) before signing up to be on this public list.
  • When you receive a phone call for a possible job, you will be responsible for negotiating a price and establishing parameters for the job.
This is a private negotiation with no City involvement.
