Hi There,

As a parent, sometimes you have to explain inexplicable things to your kids about life. It's hard, but you do the best you can. But when my son asked me, "What the heck is going on with the Lakers?" all I could do is shrug. It will remain a mystery. Like my grandmother's brisket recipe used to be.  It was an ugly finish to a brilliant career for Phil Jackson. And now I will move on.

Pipeline

Stupid Lakers! I recently interviewed Paul Areida, President of FSC, about his company's innovative product "Pipeline." FSC Pipeline is a sales management tool designed specifically for insurance agents. Paul revealed to me that back in 2009 agencies were starting to really, really struggle. The phones weren't ringing; leads weren't leading anywhere; business was not good. And when FSC's customers are affected so is FSC. In May of that year they built Pipeline. And though it's a relatively new product there is already anecdotal evidence of the way it improves the sales process and the agency's bottom-line. I've used programs like this and I can tell you my sales would be lost without Sales Management. And yes, I admit someone other than us can come up with something good. But just remember who told you about it!

More NetVu Review

Could Gasol get a rebound? I'd like to give a big thanks to Stephanie Varga for sharing with me her notes from conference. I think my dog must have eaten mine. Or I left them at the bar. Here's just a couple of Stephanie's keen observations but you can email her if you want more:

AMS360: "What's next for AMS 360" The 5.5 upgrade is just around the corner, and the most exciting change will be the ability to attach documents to Eforms. When this was demonstrated, the room broke into applause. The 6.0 upgrade will actually change the User Interface of AMS360. The new look promises to be more user friendly.

Afw: "Migration Assistant" and "Selecting the Right Training": Although I am an AMS360 Specialist, it behooves me and my clients to be up to date on what resources are available to agencies making the transition to AMS360. The tips I learned were worth the price of admission!

Okay, enough from Stephanie.

Hard Driving

What was Bynum thinking?! Anyway, there are these things called Solid State Hard Drives which are basically ram chips designed to act like a hard drive. Since there is nothing mechanical involved they run really fast. A machine that takes 1-2 minutes to boot up will now boot up in seconds. I'm not sure that they are ready for prime time and they are more expensive and lower capacity than a hard drive. But these give you a glimpse of where the world is headed - Solid State.  This is nirvana for notebooks (see Apple Airbook), my next notebook will have a solid state hard drive. They use less power and are much much faster. Here's a good article by Jeff Atwood on the subject.

Osama and Sesame Street

There is a silly site called Bert is Evil that lays out a case that, well, Bert from Sesame Street is evil. In a move that seemed to defy all logic, a doctored picture from that site of Bert and Osama appeared at a pro-Osama bin Laden protest in Bangladesh. Anti-American protesters apparently lifted the picture off the Internet and plastered it on a sign as part of a collage of bin Laden photos.
