Community Organizing Topic of June Program
Loving our Neighbors as Ourselves: Community Organizing for Congregation and Community is the topic of this year's  Institute for Leadership  in Church and Society, June 9, at Trinity. The program runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Rev. Sue Gaeta of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will be the keynote speaker. A graduate of Trinity, Gaeta is a member of the congregation-based organizing team of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Gamaliel National Clergy Caucus.

The institute begins at 10 a.m. with a two-hour plenary session entitled "For the Sake of the World: Organizing as Model for Ministry." Gaeta will provide a narrative presentation on community organization from the congregational base and facilitate a small group discussion on congregational resources for organizing.

Participants will attend two of three workshops in the afternoon. Gaeta will offer two sessions on "personal witness and the public church," while John Aeschbury, director and lead organizer of the Columbus faith-based community organizing initiative BREAD, will lead a workshop on the work of his organization. Trinity's Rod Hutton, professor of Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures, will offer two workshops on the biblical and theological foundations for congregationally based community organizing.

New Bookstore Opens at Trinity
A new independent bookstore has opened on the ground floor of Trinity Lutheran Seminary under the ownership and management of Trinity alum Paul Ritter, former manager of the Augsburg Fortress Bookstore.

Steeple People Bookstore opened May 1 in the space where the Augsburg Fortress store was located. Due to restructuring, Augsburg closed its doors at Trinity this spring after 16 years on campus. Steeple People will continue to carry many of the same products offered at Augsburg, including text books, curriculum, ecclesiastical arts, gifts, and church supplies, said Ritter, who earned his M.T.S. from Trinity in 1996.

The bookstore will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The store will be closed Sundays and Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The bookstore may be reached through e-mail at steeplepeople@earthlink.net or by calling 614-236-4237.
