New Degrees Offer Focus in Vital
Church Ministries
In response to a
fundamental need for church leaders trained explicitly in Christian education
and youth and family ministry, Trinity Lutheran Seminary has added the Master of Arts in Youth and Family Ministry and the Master of Arts in Christian Education to its curriculum. The degrees replace the Master of Arts in Lay Ministry program.
Professor Mary Hughes, director of the programs, says she receives numerous requests from churches for persons trained in these specialized ministries.
The Master of Arts in
Youth and Family Ministry focuses on ministries with children, adolescents, and
families. Training in this area prepares graduates for staff positions in
congregations, outdoor ministries, and other church agencies.
The Master of Arts in
Christian Education addresses the church's lifelong educational ministry, from
early childhood through adulthood. This
degree also prepares graduates for staff positions in congregations and church
agencies, as well as for continuing graduate education. Courses will emphasize
teaching of all age groups, including adults and older adults.
Each degree requires 56
semester hours of coursework and a minimum of 200 hours of
supervised field experience. Both degrees fulfill
the theological education requirements for rostering in the ELCA as an
Associate in Ministry or Diaconal Minister. For more information, contact the Office of Admissions, 866-610-8571.
