Check out these Neat Places at the Beach and the Mountains Many of you will be traveling around our state as we go into summer. Here are two highly recommended places that we think you should check out.
If you go to Wilmington,Wrightsville Beach, or Carolina Beach and get a hankering for a really good hot dog, cheeseburger, chicken salad and more, you should definitely go to Bonfire Hot Dogs at the intersection of Shipyard Blvd. and 17th. St. It's located in the Cornerstone Shopping Center just 1/2 mile south of New Hanover Regional Hospital. Owner, Troy Beal, knows more than a thing or two about good food fast. He is the son and step-son of Sarah and Steve Webb, owners of Snoopy's, and was a partner in charge of operations at Snoopy's for 5 years before moving to Wilmington last year to open his own business. Bonfire has ample seating inside, or you can order and get it "to go" fast. The menu is similar to Snoopy's with additional items like hot wings and grilled chicken breast sandwiches & salads. Follow this link to view the website and menu.
If you're going to the mountains in the Blowing Rock area, you should check out The Inn at Ragged Gardens and The Best Cellar Restaurant at Ragged Gardens. We were privileged to stay there in March to attend a family wedding and were delighted with the accommodations and the food. Owners, Lisa Stripling and Rob Dyer, strive to make your visit a memorable one. The inn, built at the turn of the century as a private residence, features lovely stone and warm wood architecture, comfortable antique decor, and fireplaces in all the rooms. The restaurant, which has seating overlooking a lovely courtyard or in an intimate wine cellar, is now open for lunch, as well as dinner, and features a variety of deliciously prepared items. (If you go, mention our link for a special discount.) Click on this link to view the website and menu.

Fast & Delicious Strawberries
This is a quick and delicious way to serve the fresh strawberries now available everywhere.
Wash the berries, remove the caps, and pat them dry.
Place the berries on a serving platter and chill briefly.
Top the strawberries with Smucker's Magic Shell.
(I used Chocolate Fudge.)
The chocolate will harden immediately.
Serve & enjoy. Refrigerate any strawberries left over. (Ha!) |
