Stepping Into Spring
"I stuck my head out my window this morning, and spring kissed me bang in the face." (Langston Hughes)
The poet aptly expresses how a spring day can just make us feel good! No matter how much doom and gloom is reported in the news, spring reminds us to look forward to life with optimism. This perennial change of the season is a time of rejuvenation, growth, and hope.

Learning Snoopy's Lingo An advantage of learning the Snoopy's "lingo" is getting your hot dog or sandwich fixed just the way you want it. When we train new employees, they must learn to communicate with others as efficiently and quickly as possible, so everyone learns the same "language". The goal is to say it and make it consistently the same way every time.
There is no such thing as "all the way" at Snoopy's, since that means different things to different people.
"Hot Dog" to us means a regular hot dog with mustard, onion, and chili.
"Hot Dog Plus Slaw" is a regular hot dog with mustard, onion, chili, and slaw.
Saying "Hot Dog PLUS..." is a regular hot dog with whatever extra you want on it.
(Examples: HD plus ketchup, HD plus cheese, HD plus jalapenos, HD plus mayo)
If you want a hot dog not fixed "the Snoopy's Way" (mustard, onion, chili), you would list what you do want on it such as: HD mustard, chili, slaw or HD mustard ketchup or HD mustard, onion, relish.
We'll be looking at some more of the "lingo" in coming up newsletters. |

April Days
It is fitting that April is National Garden Month and Keep America Beautiful Month. It is also Autism Awareness Month, and National Child Abuse Prevention Month. April is National Stress Awareness Month. Maybe it's because Income Taxes are due!
April 1st - April Fool's Day. In Europe, the first day of the year was celebrated in spring until the adoption of the Gregorian calendar in 1582, when the first day of the year was changed to Jan. 1st. People who stubbornly celebrated the spring date were ridiculed, called "April Fools", and made the butt of jokes. Over the years, April 1st has become a day to play practical jokes on others.
On April 6, 1909, explorer Robert Peary claimed to have discovered the North Pole. His claim was disputed by Dr. Frederick Cook, who said that he had discovered it in April of 1908. Did you know that there are actually two North Poles? One is the geographic North Pole, where all the lines of longitude converge at 90 degrees N. latitude. The magnetic North Pole, to which a compass aligns, is not fixed and moves daily.
April 7th is World Health Day.
Easter Sunday is on April 12th this year. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon that follows the Spring Equinox (March 20th).
On April 12, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank the next day.
April 15th is when Federal Income Tax is due. The 16th Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified in 1913 by three fourths of the states, and gave the federal government the authority to tax income on individuals and corporations.
(April 15th is when Snoopy's stops serving our Vegetable Beef Soup until Oct. 15th)
April 22nd is Earth Day. April 23rd is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
Arbor Day, which falls on the last Friday in April each year, is on the 24th. |
