March Musings.....
March is the transitional month between winter and spring, and it can be full of weather surprises. An old folk saying that reflects this changeable pattern is: "March may come in like a lion & out like a lamb, or in like a lamb & out like a lion. " In the past we've been teased with the first spring flowers and warm days, only to have a surprise snow storm later. We're hoping for an early spring.
Daylight Savings Time begins this year on March 8th. Be sure to "spring forward" and set your clocks ahead one hour.
Wear your green on St. Patrick's Day on March 17th. That day is also the beginning of "March Madness" - the NCAA Men's Basketball Playoffs to determine which of the 65 teams in the association will be the NCAA champion. The first four rounds will be played in March, with the Final Four Games in April.
March in History In March 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico. Russia sold Alaska to the United States in 1867 for $7.2 million (or two cents an acre) as part of an agreement to pay for telegraph lines from North America to Moscow. Asa Candler, the man who made Coca-Cola a nationally known beverage, died in 1929. In 1965 RCA produced the first color TV.
March is National Nutrition Month, National Craft Month, Frozen Food Month, Peanut Month and Chocolate Cookie Month. |
