Curiosity. Where could it lead you?

Greetings!,

Yellow roseCuriosity. Itchy. Unquenchable. Irresistible. Enriching.  It's the passion to discover, to learn, to grow. It's the urge to open the box or the door or the book. It's the pull to follow the winding path around the next turn. Curisoity. It has been at the heart of the quest making journeys for many of the women I've interviewed.  It is what has kept
Sandy Dempsey, this month's Quest Maker, growing and moving forward towards her own dream.

Curiosity is what leads me down the path for Your Next Quest Chronicles. It's my thirst to know what encourages other women to embark on the journey toward their own dreams. It's my desire to know who inspires them to take the next step, what sustains them in the face of obstacles, who nourishes their flagging spirits, who celebrates their triumphs and spurs them on.

With each interview, I've tucked one more story into the questing portmanteau, my own journey's many-pocketed traveling bag. From time to time, I've found myself reaching in and tugging out a story to read again. For I know I'll be buoyed by the resilience, humor and truth each Quest Maker has found along the way.

And so I look ahead to the new year and deliciously anticipate where curiosity will lead me. What marvelous women will share their stories with me so I can share them with you? Where will the Slated-To-Be-Completed-This-Winter book proposal about questing women lead me? What new adventures lie ahead for Your Next Quest? Where will social media like Twitter take me now that I've entered its sphere thanks to encouragement from Sandy? I can't wait to find out! [If you'd like to follow me as I learn the social media ropes, click on one of the icons above this essay.]

This coming month when I turn 58, I've made a date with myself to go on retreat. Just me - and curiosity at what I'll discover with solitude as my only companion. Two days of reflecting on the year past, of looking ahead at the year to come, of listening to what Jane Pollack calls my soul's proprietor (me!). I know I'll be turning to this month's Journal Sparker to guide the next steps to take on my own journey to where I want to be.

Curisoity. So where could it lead you?

PS. Sandy's favorite flower is a rose.

Meet Quest Maker Sandy Dempsey

Sandy Dempsey headshotTen years after her father died, Sandy realized she was no closer to her dream of writing and being her own boss. Step by step, Sandy began preparing to leave her corporate job to lead the creative, fulfilling life she'd dreamed of since she was 16. Along the way, she conceived of "a destination oasis for those on the creative journey to self discovery" and The Dreaming Café was born. When Sandy's timetable was moved up by life circumstances, she chose to climb off the corporate ladder and say "Yes!" to her dream.

I think that at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift would be curiosity.
