USER-ADOPTION: "THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION" |
Join on us May 30th as we present the key to successful implementations: User-Adoption. Register now to reserve your seat in this instructional webinar on one of the most over-looked concepts in BI delivery.
|
BrightStar Partners started in 2004 by a couple of former Cognos employees as a consulting firm focused on implementations, training, architecture and best practices. In 2005 we acquired COGNOiSe.com, the world's largest independent IBM Cognos collaboration and support community, and have grown it to over 14,000 experts strong!
In 2006 the founders created BSP Software with a mission of providing implementation-based software solutions to extend the functionality of Cognos software and to streamline manual processes to achieve quick ROI.
In 2008 BSP began actively reselling Cognos software and shortly thereafter expanded to include support renewals as well.
From implementation to training, software development to solution sales, IBM Cognos license and support sales, and worldwide community ownership, BSP is uniquely positioned within the IBM Premier Business Partner community. |

Albert Einstein allegedly made this riddle for his scholars...
A man encountered a bear in a wasteland. There was nobody else there. Both were frightened and ran away: Man to the north, bear to the west. Suddenly the man stopped, aimed his gun to the south and shot the bear. What color was the bear?
If you don't know, this may help you: if the bear ran about 3.14 times faster than the man(still westwards), the man could have shot straight in front of him, however for the booty he would have to go to the south.
Know the answer? The rules are same as last month. Did you figure out Who owns the fish(?) in May's newsletter? |

BSP MAKES A HUGE SPLASH IN AUGUST! |
Join us August 26th at the 30th annual Chicago Triathlon!
Last year BSP employee Charlie Peterson laid down a corporate challenge to entice fellow BSP'ers to participate in the Chicago Triathlon, the largest of its kind in the world! BSP had 12 members of the team successfully complete the challenge last year, and it was a life-changer for many. We've since seen several members of the company participate in other similar events, including one of our owners, who competed in this year's Ironman St. Croix 70.3!
This year BSP has more than 90% of our company registered in what is likely the largest company participation the event has ever seen! We would love to see you out on the course this year as either a spectator or participant. Please email us if you're interested in attending and we'll get you all the details.

SQL BEST PRACTICES
By SJ Van Jaarsveld, Consultant
Report authors need the ability to read and develop SQL queries, to allow them to develop more efficient BI solutions, and validate these solutions against the database. The purpose of this article is to provide guidance and 'best practice' methodology to aid in the development of SQL queries. These best practices will result in queries that are maintainable, that are standard across your organization, and that will perform better.

MODELING USING STORED PROCEDURES WITH PARAMETERS
By Bryan Smith, Consultant

One challenge BI faces is syncronizing Cognos Reporting to the same version of the truth that other tools serve up data to users. The business logic that goes into creating the data presented by other tools can be extremely difficult and time consuming to recreate within Cognos. If we could only syncronize Cognos to these other tools, we could easily gain user acceptance and trust in Cognos data.
