TEAM BSP COMPLETES THE CHICAGO TRIATHLON

Congratulations to the ten people from BSP who completed the 2011 Chicago Triathlon on Sunday, August 28!  In January, our very own Charlie Peterson threw down a challenge to the company to complete a triathlon.  Chicago was chosen as the venue, and the training began in earnest.  Nine of the racers had never done a triathlon before, three didn't know how to swim, and one gave up smoking to complete the challenge.  It's truly been life-changing!

The morning of the event, the team woke to blue skies, cool temperatures, and, unfortunately, a stiff "windy city" breeze that had been blowing down the lake for 36 hours straight.  Despite being in a protected harbor, the swim was nonetheless extremely rough.  The wind was certainly a factor on the bike portion as well.  The run along the lake front, around the Shedd Aquarium, and alongside Soldier Field was truly beautiful.  All in all, Sunday marked a day of accomplishment and achievement for everyone involved... competitors as well as the family and friends of Team BSP!

ACTIVE REPORTS:  WHAT ARE THEY, HOW DO YOU BUILD THEM, AND WHY SHOULD WE?

By Dustin Adkison, Solutions Manager

With the release of Cognos 10, IBM introduces to us a number of new innovations. The most recognized likely being the unified workspace that is Business Insight. Business Insight is easily understood and can be seen quickly and taken advantage of without difficulty from any basic level user. It is a drag-n-drop straightforward exercise to use dashboard tool that allows end-users to develop their own dashboards, and then, if permissions allow, edit the content of those dashboards on the fly. The lesser known, however equally valuable, capability that Cognos 10 brings to the BI world is Active Reports.

ADD A STANDARD REPORT TEMPLATE TO COGNOS 10

By Greg Jungels, Consultant

One of the things you can do to help standardize the look-and-feel of your IBM Cognos Reports is to create a template with pre-defined headers and footers, as well as your company color scheme and/or logo.  The intent of this exercise is to show you how to add your custom template to the "File > New" dialog box that opens up when you start Report Studio.  The IBM Cognos Administration and Security Guide provides the steps, but this paper will provide more details, including what you need to do for a multi-server environment.
