A word that comes to mind in the New Year is purpose. Many people no longer make New Year's resolutions because they know that resolutions often fall by the wayside. The week between Christmas and New Year's leaves many of us feeling in limbo. We think about the promises we made at the beginning of the year and sometimes realize we fell short of our expectations. However, it is important to leave our unfulfilled prospects of the past in the past and see the New Year as an opportunity to create or enhance your purpose.

On the topic of purpose, Daniel L. Pink writes in his book Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, "The most deeply motivated people - not to mention those who are most productive and satisfied - hitch their desires to a cause larger than themselves." Daniel goes on to write, "From the moment that human beings first stared into the sky, contemplated their place in the universe, and tried to create something that bettered the world and outlasted their lives, we have been purpose seekers. 'Purpose provides activation energy for living,' psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi told me in an interview, 'I think that evolution has had a hand in selecting people who had a sense of doing something beyond themselves."  For more on this go to my blog.

ADVANCE BLURBS FOR STORY LINE

"Every writer knows the horror of coming face to face with a blank page, armed with nothing but the glimmer of an idea, and coffee. This is a gentle guide through the terrifying first step.  Jen Grisanti has created a clear formula for turning all our wacky notions and good intentions into workable, writeable stories.  She shares her years of experience in the business as well as tremendous heart and a good dose of common sense.  You'll read STORY LINE and think, "Why didn't I think of that?"  You didn't, but fortunately, Jen did."

Deb Cahn, TV Writer

Grey's Anatomy, The West Wing

"Jen Grisanti gets to the heart of what makes us want to be storytellers in the first place-- to share something of ourselves and touch the spirits of others in the process.  Her book is powerful and compassionate guide to discovering and developing stories which will enable us to connect-- with an audience and with each other. "

NEW VENTURES ON THE RISE
I recommend the following two companies that I am involved with because we share a vision of wanting the artist to succeed and we provide a resource to help the artist get where they want to go.

VOYAGE MEDIA
"The Top 3 things TO DO when dealing With Agents & Executives, & the Sure-Fire Way To Make Them Your *New Best Friend!*"  - To see what these top 3 things are, press here.

What's the difference between a talented undiscovered writer and a talented writer with a career?   Insider Access.  Voyage Media is looking to give a competitive advantage to emerging talent through one-on-one sessions with A-list producers and executives who will read your material and strategize with you on how best to pitch and sell it.  These sessions can save you enormous amounts of time and energy by helping you refine your project to fill the specific demands of the current marketplace.  Voyage Team members are in the game-- they've developed successful high-profile projects for major studios and production companies, and now they're making themselves available to let you in on things like who is buying material like yours and how to approach the right manager or agent-- so that you don't blow it when your moment comes.

EMovieBooks & Scripts
This company provides the writer with a new platform to get their material read.

Film and television director Hubert de la Bouillerie and his wife Debbie Robins have created EMovieBooks & Scripts(emoviebooks.com)  to give Hollywood writers a way to monetize their hard work and take their power back. Now the best of Hollywood storytelling is available to the reading public for download to iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, Kindle, Nook, PC and Mac. For more information, go to emoviebooks.com.

  NOTEWORTHY
I had two clients sell their pilots in the last two months.  I am not going to
reveal their names because I like the idea of being utilized as a secret tool.  Both sold their pilots after going through my Pitch Meeting Consult.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
I don't believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive.
