Hello,
In lieu of the fact that there won't be a Friday Night Drinks in December or January, I wanted to let everyone know about a GREAT networking event happening this Thursday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. at The Standard Hotel in West Hollywood. It will be a media event celebrating the exceptional new book SMALL SCREEN, BIG PICTURE written by Chad Gervich.
I read Chad's book this weekend and, having worked in the business for more than 15 years, I have to say it is everything you ever wanted to know about television. Many years ago, I brought the idea of writing a book like this to Aaron Spelling, who fully supported it. But when I shopped the idea around, I was told that it wouldn't hit a large enough audience. I never believed this and am thrilled that Chad went out and made it happen. His book entertains while educating you about all sides of the television business and breaking new ground on topics that books similar in nature cover; from who does what behind the scenes at the studio and network, to covering the strike and its repercussions and where television is headed, to breaking down the intricate 12-week process of getting a TV show into production. It also gives writers a leg up on understanding the politics of a writer's room once they're staffed, and tips every writer should consider before writing a pilot. Chad made sure to also include key advice from top players in the industry. And for those who want to know how to break into the business of television the book; SMALL SCREEN, BIG PICTURE will tell you.
I met Chad many, many years ago and am so PROUD of all that he has accomplished over the years in this business. This book is a gift and a reflection of his dedication and all the hard work done every day by so many people in a business that we all love.
