Hello,
This is the April newsletter for Jen Grisanti Consultancy. This month I am highlighting the people who have helped me to design my business. If you are thinking about starting your own business, they are worth your consideration.
My business continues to grow by leaps and bounds. It is fascinating to see the power of the internet. From the day I launched, I have been working full time. A large part of my clients come through direct referrals from my current clients, from the community and from this newsletter and the awareness of the website. I value all of it.
I find that working one on one with the writer is producing very strong results on the page. I have had clients tell me that because they pay for this service up front, it motivates them to write. I have also had many express their sincere gratitude that such a service like this exists. It is a hard time in our business. There are fewer jobs. Agencies are cutting clients. Writing staffs are smaller. Taking the time and energy to cultivate material is more important than ever. Writers are recognizing the value of having their scripts in the strongest place possible before it goes to their agent, manager or showrunner.
I have also had clients request confidentiality. I do honor this. I will not tell people who my clients are unless the have the agent/manager service and it is done in effort to get them representation. As a result, my clients who have chosen to buy a service before handing in their script, have found that it works to their advantage to have the extra time and attention.
My clients go from baby level all the way up to the highest level in both television and features. Almost half my current clients are feature writers/directors.
My business is evolving. I am meeting with people who are interested in looking at the content from my clients. This is allowing me the opportunity to help connect them further.
If you feel you want to take the next step in your career by elevating your material, please take a look at my website at www.jengrisanticonsultancy.com. I will listen to your goals and help you to reach them.
PROMOTIONS
I am promoting the people behind my website this month. They are a very talented group.
WEBSITE DESIGNER
Many of you have asked who my website designer is. Her name is Suzie Roth. Her company is Suzie Roth Designs. You can reach her at www.suzieroth.com.
Suzie is phenomenal talent to work with. She listens to what you want, asks you the right questions and puts together a design solution that will help you to garner tremendous results. I speak from experience!
Designing my website with Suzie was the best business decision that I made. It was well worth the investment. Suzie also designed my business cards, my letterhead, my envelopes and my labels.
PHOTOGRAPHER
The photographer who took my website photos is Michael Hiller. His company is Michael Hiller Photography. You can reach him at www.michaelhiller.com.
Michael was referred to me through a friend who had fantastic photos on her website. She had worked with him for over 12 years. After meeting him and seeing his work, I understood why.
Michael is incredible to work with. He knows how to direct you to get the shot. I highly recommend him.
HAIR STYLIST
My hair was cut and styled by Gino Colombo. He is incredible! You can reach him at (323) 377-3462
COPYWRITER
Robin is great to work with. When I started this process, I had no idea that I would need this. I did. After I wrote up what I wanted for the website, she helped me to shape it into what it needed to be to best market the concept. I quickly realized the value in this part of the process.

PLACES TO HAVE MEETINGS
DR. TEA'S
8612 Melrose Ave. (Former Elixir) West Hollywood, CA 90069 Tel: 310.657.9300
DR. TEA'S - There is something magical about this place. It's where I have most of my meetings. It has delicious teas and the ambiance is a true experience. It's a writer's haven. They have a garden with runing water and some semi-private seating.
Dr. Tea is so personable! As soon as you walk in the door, he is often handing you a taste of his latest concoction. They do frozen tea drinks as well. I love getting the Chai Tea Latte with Yogi Tea and almond milk. I also love the Strawberry Cream frostie.
You can read more about Dr. Tea's at www.teagarden.com.
JAVA DETOUR
8948 Santa Monica Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90069
I love this place. It has a great ambiance. The Orange Tea Latte is fantastic! There are lots of places to sit, including booths. It is often filled with writers.
BOOK RECOMMENDATION
SAVE THE CAT - Blake Snyder
This ultimate insider's guide reveals the secrets that none dare admit, told by a show biz Veteran who's proven that you can sell your script if you can save the cat!
I had heard this was the new feature writer's bible. I read it and love it because it is simple and to the point. It is an excellent guide for storytelling.
COMING SOON
I am putting together a seminar for TV/Feature writers and directors. It will be incorporating everything I've learned about story from my mentors, what studio executives look for in scripts, what are the best scripts to write, how to prepare for writer meetings, etc.
Have a GREAT month!!
Warmest,
Jen Grisanti
