Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association
June 11- 13, 2010 Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association 29th Annual Summer Conference, Pontiac, Il. , at Central States Threshermen's Park. Conference theme is "Color and Finish in Metals".
This 2010 29th Annual IVBA Summer Conference will feature great demonstrators, beginning training class, tailgate sales, vendor booths, forging contest, open forges and a public auction.
Friday June 11 Beginner Class from 8:30 to 4:30 (reservation ph. 618-447-3538) Friday evening, A forging contest will be held in the training area followed by slide show. Saturday open forging in the training area
Saturday and Sunday Ron Young and John Medwedeff will be this year featured demonstrators. They will be focusing on developing color and finishes in metalwork. Ron Young and his wife Debbie of Sculpt Nouveau are located in southern California and well known for their expertise and products for developing color on metalwork See details on their website: http://www.sculptnouveau.com . Ron frequently demonstrates and teaches application of patinas. Ron Young is highly regarded throughout the world for his knowledge and use of patinas. He is the author of the two books on the subject: Methods for Modern Sculptors and Contemporary Patination.
John Medwedeff is a well known blacksmith artist located in Murphysboro, Illinois. John has sculptures that can be seen on his website: http://johnmedwedeff.com, including the John Deere Collection, the Metal Museum, the Illinois State Museum and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
Tail Gate traders are welcome, Load up your unused items and head for Pontiac Vendor sites are free
"IRON IN THE HAT" drawing will be Saturday at Noon. Please bring donations.
A tailgaters disposal auction will take place Saturday afternoon
The Saturday night education fund raising auction will consist of donated items by members and guest and items produced by the demonstrators. The auction is open to the public.
Pre-registration is encouraged to help us plan for amount of food and other requirements
