Mark Campbell, Fairgrounds Manager, named Washington State Fair Board Director
Mark Campbell, Evergreen State Fairgrounds manager, was recently elected to one of eight director positions on the Washington State Fairs Association Board at the 2009 WSFA Convention. The Association is a non-profit federation of agricultural fairs and youth agricultural fairs and shows held in Washington. Fairs are one of Washington's greatest tourist attractions. Exhibitor premiums of $1,600,000 are returned directly to local economies. Based on a 3:1 turnover, these dollars generate in excess of $5 million for local economies. The Washington State Fairs Association was formed in 1940 to unite together to better show the fruits of labor, agriculture, business and industry. Congratulations Mark!

Construction begins on the Centennial Trail Arlington to Skagit County section
Snohomish County and City of Arlington officials, along with several members of the Trail Coalition, celebrated the start of construction of the northernmost section of Snohomish County's Centennial Trail Oct. 26. This new section will stretch eight miles along an abandoned railroad right-of-way starting at Burke Street in Arlington and terminating at a trailhead located on the Snohomish-Skagit County line.
County Executive Aaron Reardon said he is pleased the project is underway. "Thousands of individuals and families will take advantage of this wonderful park asset." The trail is a paved, multipurpose recreational trail serving walkers, bicyclists, equestrians and others.
Beth Hill (Trail Coalition), Mayor Linda Larson, Bea Randall (Trail Coalition President), County Executive Aaron Reardon, Councilman John Koster, Marilyn Oertley (Arlington City Council) and Planning Supervisor Marc Krandel celebrate the start of construction on the Centennial Trail.

New off-leash dog area opens
Snohomish County celebrated the opening of its second off-leash dog area at Cavalero Hill Community Park on Monday. The new off-leash area includes a 3-acre meadow area and a quarter-acre shy dog area. Both areas are fenced. The remainder of the 40-acre park is open to the public for walking or hiking. "The off-leash area provides residents new opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with their dogs," said County Executive Aaron Reardon, who opened the park area with other local officials. "There is a growing desire for such an amenity, and through public-private partnerships, we're able to accommodate what our residents most want."
Cutting the ribbon to celebrate opening of the Cavalero Park off-leash dog areas are: Parks Resource Manager Hal Gausman (holding ribbon), Joan Dorrance, Kay McDonald, Adam Ibvelia, Ryan Peters, Spencer Peters, Hailey Donley, Executive Reardon, Jillian Wilcox, Evan Wilcox, Melissa Marzolf (Parks Advisory Board member) holding Ella, Park Director Tom Teigen (holding ribbon)
