Fairfield County Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Sunday August 30, 2 p.m.
Soccer super stars Fredy Montero and Osvaldo Alonso will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating completion of the new 40-acre Fairfield County Park soccer fields.
The newest Snohomish County park officially opened Thursday, Aug. 27 with 140 teams playing in the Sky River Soccer Tournament take the field.
Montero and Alonso will be on-site at Fairfield County Park from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and will then travel to the Evergreen State Fair to sign autographs in support of Fiesta Sunday sponsored by Comcast.
Snohomish County especially thanks Comcast for bringing these two soccer super stars to Fairfield Park and the Evergreen State Fair and its continued support of Snohomish County Parks. |
McCollum Park Pool hours extended
Originally scheduled to close Sept. 1, the pool will now remain open through Monday, Sept. 7. The pool also is offering a one-week swim lesson session. Find the extended season schedule at www.snocoparks.org.

Go Extreme...Go Evergreen! The 2009 Evergreen State Fair begins!
Freestyle Motocross Extreme Show Michael Metzger, the 24-year-old Godfather of modern Freestyle Motocross, will attend the 2009 Evergreen State Fair Extreme Monster Truck and Freestyle show tonight. Michael is known for his craziness and for completing the "Impossible Jump" live on National Television in 2006, when he successfully jumped over the infamous fountains in front of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, did a back flip and set a new record for distance.
Michael's appearance at the Evergreen State Fair is just part of the excitement taking place during the Extreme Monster Truck Show. Seven nationally-acclaimed Monster Trucks, including Bounty Hunter and Iron Maiden, will be competing head to head for one night only beginning at 7 p.m. A Pit Party to meet the drivers, freestyle motorcyclists and BMX riders will be held from 6 p.m. until showtime. Ticket holders will have full access during the Pit Party which is an added value to the show. All drivers and riders also will be available following the show for autographs and photos. A fireworks extravaganza will conclude the evening performance.
The grandstand event lineup also includes the Colgate Country Showdown, Williams and Ree, Disney Under The Stars, Queensryche, Blake Shelton and Diamond Rio. For more information, visit www.evergreenfair.org or call the Fair at 360-805-6700.

National Night Out at McCollum Park draws a crowd About 3,000 adults and children attended the annual National Night Out Against Crime event at McCollum Park Aug. 4.
Sponsored by the Snohomish County Executive Office, the annual event featured free food, face painting, games, a Snohomish County Sheriff helicopter fly-in, music by "The Resonators" and a dunk tank. Also making appearances were the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's arson dog "Topper," and Community Transit's OxyGene.
More importantly, attendees learned the latest fire and law enforcement efforts to prevent crime and protect property in Snohomish County.

Sno-DOG general meeting Sept. 24
Sno-DOG, a volunteer organization focused on promoting development of off-leash dog areas within Snohomish County will hold its general meeting Thursday, September 24 in the Gary Weikel Room at Willis Tucker Community Park from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. All dog companions who frequent and appreciate local off-leash areas including the 8 plus acres at Willis Tucker Park are encouraged to join the group for discussions on volunteer opportunities, local dog events and classes, and a potential dog agility course project. Willis Tucker Community Park is located at 6705 Puget Park Drive, Snohomish.

Specialized Recreation Country Western Dance Friday, Sept. 25 Kick-off Fall/Winter programs with some upbeat Western tunes, socializing, and dancing at Willis Tucker Community Park for teens and young adults (ages 13-21). Parents and family members are always welcome. Enjoy music provided by D.J. and SPIN dance artist, Jerry Albin. Bring your favorite western tune (optional) and wear your favorite western outfit. FEE: $5.00. Advanced Registration Required.
Parks & Recreation is offering new teen and young adult programs this fall and winter. This program includes family, teens and young adults with disabilities and peer and adult mentors. Monthly events, such as family swim night at the Maplewood Center Pool in Edmonds, SPIN dances with a D.J., karaoke, a fall festival, a November night hike (wheel chair accessible), campfire, and nature experience with park ranger Tom Cowper and adapted gym activities in conjunction with a performing jump rope team are planned. A New style of exercise class called "Dance Pulse!"
If you like to dance or watch dancing, this class is for you! Designed to give you the look and tone of a dancer with the stretch, tone and strengthen section, then 35 cardio minutes of non-stop, instructor-led aerobic dancing to your favorite different styles of music that helps you express yourself in dancing. Ending with refocus, relaxation, body awareness and stretch. A well-rounded workout with all the benefits of dance!
Taught by dancer, choreographer, mother, school teacher and past PTA president, Pam Shinsato knows how important it is to balance life's activities. Join her as she offers a fun reason to make time to take care of your whole health!
Free trial class is on September 23, Wednesday @ 6:30-7:30 pm at Willis Tucker Park Gary Weikel Room. Please arrive 15 minutes early to get signed in and ready. Bring a towel, water, comfortable clothes and workout shoes. Classes start on October 5 and are on Mondays and Wednesdays.
