NOVEMBER'S HEALTH TIP New Physical Activity Guidelines! The federal government recently issued its first-ever Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. The main idea behind the guidelines is that regular physical activity over months and years can produce long-term health benefits. According to the guidelines, for adults, most health benefits occur with at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) a week of moderate-intensity physical activity, such as brisk walking. Additional benefits occur with more physical activity. To read more about the new guidelines go to this link: http://www.health.gov/paguidelines/default.aspx
Health Dip for Veggies For a quick and healthy dip for the holidays, combine 1 cup plain nonfat or low-fat yogurt with 1 teaspoon lemon juice, a clove of minced garlic and 1 tablespoon fresh dill. Want to teach? If you have the special skill and patience needed to teach others, let us know! Snohomish County Parks and Recreation utilizes independent contract instructors to provide recreational services to our community. Often, a person has a special interest in an area that he or she wants to share with others. Programs may be designed for preschoolers, school age children, teens, adults, families or seniors. A canoeing/sea kayaking instructor is especially needed.
Your participation and involvement will complement the diversity of our programming and contribute to the overall success of the programs. Download the Contract Instructor Handbook or call the Recreation Supervisor at 425-388-6604 to request one. The Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building strong families through the provision of recreational opportunities. We believe that the benefits of participating in recreational programs, classes and events are more important than the activity itself.

Meadowdale Beach County Park is open!
Final repairs have been made to Meadowdale park and the site is completely reopened to the public. The trail repairs have gone through one round of flooding and are still holding strong, so we hope to not experience any further trail blow outs in the foreseeable future.
Repair work at the park included reconstruction of the ADA/service access road and two trail locations - one a complete rebuild (over 30' long and 20' high) and one to strengthen a section that had eroded to the edge of the trail. Repairs were done using soil wraps, which is a relatively new technology but one that you're likely to see more and more - Springhetti road is an example. See the photo above of our larger trail rebuild section.
Thank you for your patience during this this past year's closure of Meadowdale Beach Park.
