Meadowdale Beach Park
Closed Due to Storm Damage
Meadowdale Beach Park suffered extensive damage during the December 3rd storm and the park is closed. Landslides in two different places made the trail impassable. At the height of the storm, Park Ranger Doug Dailer reports that the tunnel access to the beach was covered with water and several large salmon were swimming in the meadow. The large sediment deposit in the meadow region of the park will need to be cleared and the access trail will need to be re-routed before the park can re-open. Estimated completion time is Spring 2008. |
Nakashima Barn on the Centennial
Trail Proposed for Historic Registry
The Nakashima barn, along the Centennial Trail north of Arlington, is one of the first barns listed on the state's new Heritage Barn Register. Built by relatives of the founder of Seattle and later sold to the Nakashima family, the barn has withstood the internment of its Japanese-American owners during World War II, has lived through the modernization of the dairy industry, and has survived a decade of abandonment. The Nakashimas are one of Snohomish County's first Japanese farming families. The barn has also been nominated for the National Register of Historic Places. Read articles...
