Students, we are very proud of you, and we are extremely blessed by your Christ-honoring accomplishments, during the 2011-2012 school year. Your focus on learning and your commitment to excelling, by using your gifts and talents for God's glory, your family and your school community, are greatly appreciated. Well done!

Parents, teachers, staff members, coaches and volunteers, thank you for answering God's call to partner together in Christ to disciple the children of WA. Your faithful devotion to Christ and your tireless dedication to excellence is a wonderful blessing and testimony at WA. Kudos to each of you.

Praise God for His provisions, protection and providential blessings, during the 2011-2012 school year. Praise God for every member of the Westminster Academy learning community.

Watch the 2012 Commencement Ceremony  Live Tonight on the Web! 

The Class of 2012's Commencement Ceremony will be held tonight, Friday, May 25, at 7:00 PM. Our Commencement speaker is Dr. Bob Barnes, president of Sheridan House Family Ministries. This is a ticketed event, however, seats are available at 6:45 PM for those without tickets.

In the event you are unable to attend the Commencement Ceremony, we will offer "Live Streaming." You may access live streaming of this ceremony on Friday, May 25, at 7:00 PM by visiting www.wacad.edu/graduation.

This means that family and friends from around the world can be a part of this very special ceremony!

Praise God for His blessings, as we send off another exceptional group of leaders, disciples and ambassadors for God's glory from WA.

Fourth Quarter Accelerated Readers

After a student reads a book, he/she takes a quiz to test their
comprehension of the material.  Points are received for the percentage correct on the quiz, factored into the equation is the difficulty level of the book. These top three students received the most points of all those in 6th grade for the fourth quarter.

Caroline Israels and Denise Israels Both Recognized for Water Polo Achievements  

Israels
Caroline Israels was awarded ladies' water polo player-of- the-year and overall female athlete-of-the-year at The Miami Herald All-Broward Awards Banquet.

Caroline is a four sport athlete.  The sports she participated in this year were volleyball, swimming, soccer, and water polo. Her water polo stats for this year are 35 sprints, 186 goals, 71 assists, 131 steals and she drew 24 ejections.

Her soccer statistics for this year are 20 goals and 12 assists.

Her volleyball statistics for this year are 154 service points, 42 aces, 205 kills and 80 digs.

In swimming, she was a district, regional and state finalist in the 200 and 400 Free Relay.

Caroline is a remarkable student-athlete and we look forward to her senior year. Way to go Caroline, we are very proud of you, and blessed by your extraordinary accomplishments. Well done!

Megan Kinsella Receives Duke Tip Award  
 
MeganThe Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented youth. As a world leader in gifted and talented education, Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential. Last week the Duke state Ceremony was held, and Megan Kinsella received her award.  A list of all WA students who received a Duke Tip Award will be available soon. 
 
"I would highly recommend involvement in the Duke Tip program as a supplemental support for academically gifted students," said Megan's mom,Kim Kinsella.

                             Connor DeYoung Named
"Outstanding Student Blood Drive Chairman"

At the annual luncheon for the Community Blood Centers of South Florida, Inc., Connor DeYoung was named   "Outstanding Student Blood Drive Chairman" for all schools in South Florida.
 
He has shown excellent positive leadership as a planner, organizer, recruiter, and participant for three school blood drives and three blood drives at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, as well as two additional blood drives at the Muvico Theater, in Pompano Beach, FL.

The Blood Center showed their continued appreciation by honoring Connor for his significant contributions to the Blood Center's high school blood drive program, and was named "Student Contact-of-the-Year" for all private schools in Broward County. This award is given to one student from the private school system and one from the public schools. 
Connor was the chairman of the blood drive for WA this year, but was also a chairman of the blood drive last year. Way to go Connor, we are very proud of you, and blessed by your accomplishments.

Guy Metzger was also recognized for all that he has done over the years for this program.    
                         

                       
Meet Some of Our Seniors 

Amelia Bohlander 
Amelia
 
Amelia Bohlander, who is Furman University bound, is an Academic Champion-Top 10 in the Senior Class . She has been awarded a Furman University Scholarship for volleyball, and a Florida Academic Bright Futures Scholarship. Amelia will be receiving a Scholar Diploma and is an AP Scholar. Amelia has earned all A's throughout High School, and  is a member of the National Latin Honor Society.  Amelia has excelled as a student-athlete, and has been named: Miami Herald 1st Team-Volleyball, Sun-Sentinel 2nd Team-Volleyball, Scholar Athlete Honorable Mention . Amelia was also a member of the National Honor Society, Honor Women's Choir and Mixed Honor Choir. Way to go Amelia, we are very proud of you, and blessed by your accomplishments. Luke Ferraguti 

   
Luke Ferraguti is an Academic Champion-Top 10 in the Senior Class, and has received a music scholarship to Vanderbilt University, and has earned a Florida Academic Bright Futures Scholarship. Luke is one of our Salutatorians, receiving a Scholar Diploma, and is an AP Scholar with Honors. He received all A's throughout High School,  is a National Honor Society member, and received 1,250 hours of Community Service. Luke is a member of the Mixed Honor Choir and serves as an Officer.  He is also a member of the A Cappella Choir, and serves as the Student Director of the A Cappella Choir, is the High School Chapel Co-Worship Leader, has participated in All-State Reading Choir for all four years, and appeared in the school musical all 4 years with, the lead his senior year. Luke is an accomplished pianist, played varsity golf, and is the Homecoming King. Way to go Luke, we are very proud of you, and blessed by your accomplishments.




Kayla Gardner

Kayla Gardner, who is University of South Carolina bound, has earned an athletic scholarship for track and field. She is a Spanish National Honor Society member, taking Spanish 1-4, Honors, through high school. Kayla is a District Track Champion-Long Jump and 100m Hurdles Regional Track Champion-100m Hurdles (14.44 New School Record). She is also the State Track Champion-100m Hurdles, Miami Herald-3rd Team-100m Hurdles and won the Carl A Peterson-Athlete-of-the-Year Award. Way to go Kayla. Way to go Kayla, we are very proud of you, and blessed by your accomplishments.


 

Josh Orsino

 

Orsino 

Josh Orsino is FAU bound on a football scholarship, added yet another historic achievement to his decorated high school football career. On May 18, 2012, Josh was named the National Christian Schools Athletic Association (NCSAA) "National Offensive- Player-of- the Year" for football, for the 2011 season. This accomplishment culminates an incredibly successful and productive high school football career for Josh.


Josh finished the 2011 season as the 13th most productive wide receiver in the United States and impressively, was the nation's top-ranked receiver in yards per game, averaging 174 yards per contest. Josh only played 10 games in each of the last two seasons. In 2011, the nation's leaders in receptions, yards, and touchdowns each played in 14 and 15 games respectively. Of the players who played in 10 games in 2011, Josh finished as the number one ranked wide receiver in the nation.

Josh was also awarded more than $1.6 million in college football scholarship offers.

Please join the WA community in congratulating these seniors on their tremendous accomplishments. Praise God for His provisions on them!

WA Uniform Information  

As you prepare for summer and begin to clean out closets and dresser drawers, please remember to donate any "gently used" school uniforms to the WA Uniform Bank.

Please note: It is best not to donate WA school uniforms to local charities, as we do not want the general public to have access to our uniforms. All unused uniforms are donated to Haiti.

Uniforms may be dropped off at Facilities, Lower School and Upper School offices.

Pathway of Excellence Brick Program  
Brick

A special way to capture the blessings of your child is through the "Pathway of Excellence Commemorative Brick Program."  A brick can be engraved and placed in the front pathway of our school-alumni truly enjoy seeing their names on the
"Pathway of Excellence." You may have your child's name engraved on it with a favorite Bible verse, special message, etc. You may also want to thank a special teacher, coach or mentor, by engraving a brick for them. A special letter will be sent to the individual(s) you want to recognize.

Proceeds from the "Pathway of Excellence" will be used to support our Annual Fund, helping to close the gap between tuition and fees, and what it actually costs to provide a quality, Christ-honoring education at a school of excellence, like WA.
