WA - E-News
awards

Dear WA Community,

Please allow me this opportunity to share with you how impressed I am with the Class of 2012. They have excelled in so many ways, by using their gifts and talents for God's glory. What I admire most about the Class of 2012, is their Christ-honoring passion for excellence. They are to be commended for their remarkable achievements. Their love for Jesus Christ, one another and Westminster Academy, along with their accomplishments and service to others, have set a new standard for others to follow at WA.

One of the many astonishing accomplishments of this exceptional group of young men and women, is the amount of college scholarship money they have been offered this year. The Class of 2012 has received more than $8 million in total college scholarship offers in academics, Fine Arts and athletics combined. With 98 graduates, this is close to $82,879 per senior, in college scholarship offers. This is the most of any senior class in our 41-year history.

Kudos to our seniors, for a job well done!  I would also like to commend their teachers, coaches and their army of witnesses for a job well done! In early June, we will publish the Celebrating God's Work In Our Class of 2012, which will capture all of their extraordinary achievements, during their senior year at WA.

Please join me in congratulating the following seniors for their college scholarships in academics, Fine Arts and athletics, especially our Valedictorian, Alex Danielsen-Haces, who will be going to MIT on a full academic scholarship (please see his section, below the seniors):

There are five distinct areas that we will write about in these publications. We will publish one per week in the Enews with a special link to our website. The information will be kept on our website. Given the volume of work and coverage, we may unintentionally miss someone or something that should be included, so we want your feedback about the documents. Your input is valuable and appreciated.

Alex

Alex Danielsen-Haces was awarded the 2012 Gates Millennium scholarship because of his strong leadership, community service and academic achievements. What is especially notable is that more than 24,000 students applied, making this year the largest and most competitive group of candidates in the program's history. The Gates Millennium Scholarship covers college costs, through his masters and possibly doctorate degrees.

Alex has earned multiple scholarships, totaling more than $326,000

Congratulations, Alex, we are proud of you!
Congratulations to Our Equestrians Maggie Botkin and Taylor Ellis

Maggie
Maggie Botkin

Maggie was ten when she started to ride following in her sister's footsteps.  She began at Millpond Farm in Coconut Creek, Florida, which is owned and operated by a WA family. She continued her career riding for Jimmy Torano and finished her high school career with Alan Korotkin at Castlewood Farms in Wellington, Florida.

She is looking forward to continuing to ride at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. At Oklahoma State, Maggie will be part of the Hunt Seat Team, competing against NCAA Women's Equestrian teams. Please click here for more information regarding Maggie's accomplishments.

Taylor Ellis

Taylor was born with a love for horses. Her first pony ride was before she was a year old, and she would beg to ride anytime there was a horse around. She is a member of the South Florida Hunter Jumper Association, Palm Beach Hunter Jumper Association, and the Marshall and Sterling League-among other riding Taylorassociations. She has won numerous events and awards, but her favorites have been from the SFHJA.  In 2010, she was voted "Most Improved Rider," an award that is voted on by all of the trainers and professionals in the association and in 2011, she was awarded the "Sportsmanship Award" which was voted on by her peers. Taylor traveled to New York, in September 2011, to compete in the "Marshall and Sterling National Finals." The "Winter Equestrian Festival" in Wellington, Florida, has been the arena for most of her competitions for the past three years.

Taylor plans to continue riding while at college, perhaps joining the school team after acclimating herself to college life. She is looking forward to continued riding success and eventually would like to try her hand at training mid-level riders.

We are proud of you both!
Snorkeling Added to the
WA Summer Camps!

Join Reef Ministries at the Westminster Academy Summer Sports Camp, July 9-14, for a special Snorkeling Camp adventure. This camp is for 3rd-6th grade students, who want to learn how to snorkel and explore God's underwater world. Campers receive presentations on corals, fish and caring for the underwater world. Then its onto the pool to learn snorkeling skills and techniques.

On the last day of camp, parents and campers go on a snorkeling boat trip to a shallow coral reef only 1/4 mile offshore, in 15 feet of water. Campers will explore and photograph the beautiful reefs of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, while showing their parents how skilled they are at snorkeling.

Westminster Academy is excited to announce the 2012-2013 production of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, based upon the beloved story by C.S. Lewis. Siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy journey through a wardrobe into the magical land of Narnia, where they discover an ancient prophecy and their part in it. This classic tale of good versus evil is a vivid allegory for the redeeming work of Jesus for sinners, set against a world of danger and adventure.

Performance Dates: April 12-13, 2013 (more information to follow.)
