WA - E-News
Pinnacle

Dear WA Community,

Please join me in congratulating Westminster Academy's 2012 Pinnacle Award recipients. Each school year, Broward County non-public schools recognize three outstanding students from each private school in the county. Once again this year's  recipients, like those in the past, represent God and WA extremely well. These outstanding young ladies have excelled with their gifts and talents at WA. Their scholarship, integrity, maturity and leadership testimonies have set them apart from their peers. They were voted the best of the best, and brightest, at WA. Below, please take a moment to read what their WA principals had to say about them.

Congratulations!
Lexi Gonzalez
Kitt Curtis
Christina Roldan

Lower School Principal Becky Myers-"Lexi Gonzalez is an exceptional young lady who always wears a smile and offers a word of encouragement. She is a well-rounded student who is respected by her peers and teachers. Lexi excels academically and participates in a variety of extra-curricular activities. She has served on the lower school Student Council as secretary and vice-president. Outside of school, Lexi participates in kickboxing, gymnastics and soccer. Despite her busy schedule, Lexi still finds time to participate in her church's youth group and hopes to volunteer as a Counselor-in-Training this summer. Lexi's contributions, along with her genuine willingness to listen and help others, exemplify a strong Christian character. She is an asset to the fifth-grade class, as well as the entire WA community."

Middle School Principal Diane Showalter-"Westminster Academy is pleased to recognize Kitt Curtis as the 2012 Pinnacle Award winner. Kitt excels in academics, always striving to do her very best on every assignment. She participates in her church's youth group and is interested in children's theatre. Kitt also extends her leadership abilities to Student Council and the National Junior Honor Society at Westminster Academy. In athletics, she has been a part of the diving team, cheerleading squad, soccer team, and track team. Her excellent musical talents are evident in her playing of the cello. Kitt encourages others on a daily basis. She is a friend to many, showing her faith in Christ in her walk, as well as in her talk. Kitt Curtis embodies the qualities which Westminster Academy declares in its motto, Devoted to Christ; Dedicated to Excellence."

High School Principal Mike Critch-"Christina Roldan is a remarkable young lady, who captivates others with her intelligence and engaging personality. At the Distinguished Young Women competition in Orlando, judges awarded Christina the title of Distinguished Young Woman. Her peers also gave her the title of Miss Congeniality. Christina is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and is working on German. She excels in all areas of study and holds a place in the top ten percent of her graduating class. Because of the love God has placed in her for other cultures, Christina plans to major in medicine and international relations, and hopes to incorporate her gift of music into her future career. Christina states that her desire to care for the physical needs of others will help her to care for their spiritual needs as well."

We are very blessed by Lexi, Kitt and Christina and their Christ-honoring character, accomplishments and testimony during the 2011-2012 school year. Well done, and kudos to each of them.

I would also like to share with you a letter from a parent of one of our seniors from the Class of 2012. I removed the names and some of the specific information to protect the privacy of the family. The note is a sweet testimony of God's powerful love and amazing grace at work in the heart, mind and life of our students. When our children share their testimonies, like the one below, it is a very special blessing to a parent (and school).

Our children are truly blessed to be at WA, and it is really neat when they realize it prior to graduating. It is also really special when we see God's handiwork in the character and accomplishments of our students at WA.

I hope you enjoy the testimony and the way God's work shines through the words of one of our seniors. I hope it brings you a blessing and an encouragement for your children and family.  Please see this special letter below:

Dear Dr. O,

I would like to share a conversation I had with my child last week.  We are planning for graduation and for our child to go off to college in the fall. We decided to go out for dinner, and I was  thinking that tonight I'll share some thoughts about grades, the car and new responsibilities at college. Well to my surprise, the evening went completely opposite than what I had planned.

Out of the blue, my child said, "Mom, I don't know where I would be if I hadn't gone to school at WA or wasn't raised in our church. I know I didn't try as hard as I should have in middle school and I'm trying to make up for it now. At times, I said I dislike WA, but that's not true.  If I live in Florida when I have a family of my own, I don't want my children to go anywhere else."

All of a sudden my ideas about what we should be discussing at dinner weren't as important as hearing this testimony from my child.  I would like to take this opportunity to say "thank you" to all the faculty, staff, coaches and many parent volunteers at Westminster Academy!

Thank you for loving Jesus and for investing your time in WA, my child, and our family. Thank you for extending grace, love, and patience to them for such a long time!

Blessings,
WA Senior Parent

Please allow me this opportunity to thank every member of the WA community. It takes a community of believers to raise and disciple a child in Christ and Truth. Because of God's grace and love along with steadfast prayer and the hard work of many, WA continues to be used by God in a mighty way to save souls, shape character and to inspire children to be all that God created them to be for His glory.

Your prayers, love and commitment to the mission and children of WA are deeply valued and much appreciated. May God continue to use WA in a blessed way to impact lives for His divine purposes.

Blessings to you and your family in the Name of Jesus Christ,

Sam
In honor of the "National Day of Prayer," Sam Kastensmidt, author, and beloved WA Bible Teacher, shares with listeners of "Homeroom," the power of prayer. Why should I pray if God already knows everything? How can I learn to hear the voice of God? What do I do when I don't think God hears my prayers? What happens to a nation when its people pray for their leaders? All of this and more, will be discussed this Thursday night.

"Homeroom" can be heard every Thursday evening from 9-10 PM on GRACE FM 90.3 FM, or on www.gracefmradio.com.
