Westminster Academy | Devoted to Christ - Dedicated to Excellence

Dr. Leo Orsino HeadshotDear WA Community,

Last Monday we celebrated Presidents' Day as a country.  Each year when we celebrate this special day I am reminded of how blessed we were by George Washington's prayer life.

As I have shared in the past, George Washington is one of my favorite presidents because of his prayer life. Below please see one of my favorite prayers from President Washington's prayer journal. I hope you enjoy this prayer as much as I do:

George Washington's Prayer for Guidance*

O eternal and everlasting God, I presume to present myself this morning before thy divine majesty, beseeching thee to accept of my humble and hearty thanks, that it hath pleased thy great goodness to keep and preserve me the night past from all the dangers poor mortals are subject to, and has given me sweet and pleasant sleep, whereby I find my body refreshed and comforted for performing the duties of this day, in which I beseech thee to defend me from all perils of body and soul...

Increase my faith in the sweet promises of the Gospel, give me repentance from dead works; pardon my wanderings, and direct my thoughts unto thyself, the God of my salvation; teach me how to live in thy fear, labor in thy service, and ever to run in the ways of thy commandments; make me always watchful over my heart, that neither the terrors of conscience, the loathing of holy duties, the love of sin, nor an unwillingness to depart this life, may cast me into a spiritual slumber, but daily frame me more and more into the likeness of thy son Jesus Christ, that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time attain the resurrection of the just unto eternal life bless my family, friends, and kindred.

*Prayer from George Washington's prayer journal, Mount Vernon

Your love and prayers for WA are greatly appreciated.

Blessings to you and your family in the Name of Jesus Christ,

briggsEveryone is invited to join us for a special reception for Mr. Briggs' retirement in Fellowship Hall (Bay D), immediately following the play on Friday night, hosted by the Alumni Association. Please feel free to invite anyone who would like to honor Mr. Briggs.

About the play:

Godspell, written by John-Michael Tebelak, is a joyful celebration of the Gospel, as told by St. Matthew. It is a religious experience to be enjoyed by all age groups. The Gospel, which means "good news" is brought to life by the exuberant cast using many theatrical devices such as pantomime, vaudeville, and creative drama. The music, which is a major part of the story and production, uses many styles ranging from folk, pop, rock, and musical comedy. The main theme of Godspell is to portray the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The final segment of the play makes a dramatic transition involving the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.

We hope this performance will have a strong impact upon you--the audience, and that the reality of Jesus Christ will be shown throughout.
