Dear Friends,
Well, it finally hit me. This is my baby girl's last year in High School. This can't be! I'm way too young to have two children in college. Besides, it was only yesterday I was bouncing Rebecca on my knee and pushing Jason around the carport on his Big Wheel. Ah, those were the days.
Time passes so quickly. It seems moments ago we were looking forward to a long, lazy summer, only to look up and find it has slipped silently, but surely away into another school year. The older I get, the more I notice how quickly time passes. The things I fully intended to do a hundred yesterdays ago are stacked along side the undone honey-do's and shoulda-dones. Oh well, there's always next summer. Right?
The death of Michael Jackson was a sobering moment in my life. I grew up listening to the "King of Pop" and danced to the "Thriller" video on MTV down at the frat house. Hard to believe one of the icons of my generation has left us. The point is, who would have thought Michael Jackson would EVER die, much less so tragically and suddenly? Truth is, we never know exactly how much more time we will have.
This Sunday we will be talking about Intentional Faith Development in our sermon series called "Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations". We might think we have plenty of time to sign up for a Bible study next time around. Or we might put off signing up until the last minute hoping the class will fill up and we won't be able to attend. But, the truth is, we can't predict the future, just ask Michael.
So, here's the deal, sign up for a class or a ministry or a mission project as the opportunity presents itself. Don't wait, you'll forget, or time will get away from you or you'll just chicken out. As NIKE says, "Just Do It!".
Your Pastor and Nagging Friend,

Each Sunday we begin our worship time with ten minutes of Family Worship. Families with young children are invited to join us down front as the worship team leads us in a couple of upbeat, fast paced worship songs. Hey, I know it's geared towards families with young kids, but last week I saw a lot of you old guys raising your hands and getting your praise on too! |
