On the day of
Pentecost all the believers
were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was
a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the
house where they were sitting. Then, what looked
like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of
them. And everyone present
was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages,£ as the Holy Spirit
gave them this ability. (Acts 2:1-4)
Hi Friends,
This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. It is the day which we celebrate the birth of the Christian church by the coming of the Holy Spirit. I know, it's a mouthful. So, here's the deal: After Jesus was crucified, buried and rose from the grave, He appeared to many of his followers. Some accounts say He appeared to over five hundred people at one place alone, not to mention all the times He met with the Disciples.
Finally, fifty days after the Feast of Passover (when Jesus was crucified), Jesus ascended into heaven for the last time. Acts 1:9 tells us: After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.
So, Jesus was "gone", but He still needed a way to "remain" with His followers. So, God sent the Holy Spirit to be the Presence of Christ on earth. For the next several weeks we will be discussing the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Believer. The messages will come primarily from the Book of Acts and will cover a broad range of topics. (see list below) I know you will enjoy this series and be empowered by what we learn together.
Good Fishin and See You in Church,
