Dear Friends,
Life is full of changes and transitions. I think it was Aristotle (or Mark Twain) who said, "The only constant is change." We've seen our fair share of changes at NewSong. From our days of loading and unloading each Sunday at Center Stage. The hanging of the curtains, the setting up of chairs...all of which could never have happened without the diligence of the coffee crew.
We grew from 40 to over a hundred and realized that a move was in order. So, we renovated a four thousand sf warehouse in the midst of Hurricane Gustave, ran off a bunch of gypsies from the parking lot, worshipped for a couple of months, grew from 100 to about 130 and realized we were quickly outgrowing yet another space. and oh yes, the coffee crew once again rose to the occasion each Sunday.
Now, of course we are in the spacious 12,000 sf warehouse with Airline HWY frontage, a lighted sign, seating for 300 plus and we now have a coffee bar right in front as you enter the building. Somebody ought to say AMEN! Yes, the coffee crew is still hard at work.
Truthfully, the only thing constant in NewSong's short history has been the coffee crew. Oh yeah, and our Worship Leader Ashley McMasters. Ashley's been with us since the beginning too. She was there when Butch and I duct taped the sound system together each week to make it work. She was there when we had to "old school" it one Sunday because the computer wouldn't gee-haw with the projector. She was there every Thursday night running rehearsals and every Sunday morning tuning up the band. She's made sure everyone had their music, made sure everyone had a mic, made sure the powerpoint presentation was made (even when the pastor got her the slides Sunday morning). And she's ushered us into worship each Sunday with style and grace and spirit.
But, as I said, there's no constant but change. Ashley is graduating from LSU this year and will be moving on to other endeavors. We tried to talk her into staying with the best band in Tiger Land, but other ventures await. This Sunday is her last day with us as Worship Leader. We'll be honoring her with a Graduation/Goodbye brunch at 9:30 this Sunday morning, I know you will want to be there to thank her and wish her well.
