Remembering Love
Dear Friends,

Afterward Jesus went up on a mountain and called out the ones he wanted to go with him. And they came to him. Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. (Mark 3:13-14)

Although hundreds, if not thousands of people listened to Jesus preach and teach, he chose a small group of followers to teach and mentor in a more intimate fashion. These men were his disciples. We refer to them now as Apostles. These were the men who knew Jesus best. They spent time with him, listened to him, watched him, protected him, did ministry with him. They were not only his colleagues, they were his closest friends.

A large part of your walk with Christ involves spiritual development or discipleship training. Some of that can and does take place on Sunday morning as we worship together. However, deep spirituality and mature faith experienced is more often when persons join and become active in small groups. This is where we get to know Jesus (and each other) on a more intimate level.

At NewSong we have several small groups already in place, our worship team, and men's and women's groups meet occasionally to fellowship and share. In order to offer everyone the opportunity to be involved in a small group, we are starting three new ones this month. You will find descriptions of each below. I encourage you to pick one and get involved. You'll be amazed at the results.

Peace,
Trey Harris

"The Shack" Book Studyshack
BEGINS TUESDAY MAY 5TH

"Mack" Philips took his three children on a family camping trip while his wife vi
sited her sister. Just as they were about to leave the campsite, the two older kids decided to take a last canoe ride before heading home. As their canoe overturned, and Mack went to help them, his back was turned and the unspeakable happened. Mack's youngest daughter,Missy, was abducted by a known child predator. After a massive search, evidence of Missy showed up at an abandoned cabin. Although they never found her body, everyone knew the worst had happened. For the next four years "a great sadness" fell over Mack and his family, until a note from God showed up in his mailbox. What happens next will move you to a greater understanding of God's unfailing love for us all.

"The Shack" study will begin at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, May 5th. The paperback version can be purchased at Walmart for a little over $10 or Sam's for $9+. or can be order at CBD. Those attending the first meeting on May 5th are asked to read the Forward as well as the first three chapters.

The Gospel of Matthewmatthew a
BEGINS MONDAY, MAY 4th

With Matthew's emphasis on the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, his Gospel forms a natural bridge between the Old and New Testaments. While it is directed toward Jewish readers, it has never been limited in it's audience. From the visit of the Magi reported at the beginning of this Gospel to the words of the Great Commission at it's conclusion, the large sphere and interests of the Messiah are clear. Throughout Matthew's Gospel we learn that Jesus is indeed the promised Messiah, come to redeem His people.

This comprehensive 13-session, verse-by-verse, book-by-book study of the Bible uses a three-dimensional approach. Each 13-session volume is based on the NIV translation. 1.The study book helps students answer the question, "What does the Bible say?" 2.The meaning of the passage is made clear by considering such aspects as ancient customs, locations of places, and the meanings of words 3.Students connect the meaning of the Scripture with their own lives.

Meets: Sunday evenings at the church, 6:30-8:00 PM
Cost: $10
