Dear Friends,
Once again, it is the season to be thankful. Health is the greatest wealth for my family and friends for which I am very grateful. I also particularly appreciate both my longtime and the brand new clients that I have had the opportunity to serve this year. I would be even more grateful if you would share with others by taking just a moment to nominate Amy's Skin Care for "Best Facial" in the Best of Citysearch.
Now that the
strong sun in only a fond memory until next summer, it is a great time
to consider exfoliation treatments or micro-dermabrasion. Please use my coupon for a special price on a series of three Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel treatments, or give it to a friend that can benefit.
Winter months mean more time indoors, and that too often means more exposure to household chemicals. This Skinformation issue looks at the health risks of laundry detergent and what I've done to make a safer home for my family.
When you cannot visit my spa, Amy's Store is a great way to see, shop and forward Eminence product suggestions to your family and friends. Orders are shipped Priority Mail free of charge anywhere in the United States. I'm always just a phone call or email away for expert answers to your product questions.
If someone you know would benefit from this newsletter, there's never been a better time to forward to your friends. Share Skinformation with five friends, and you will receive a free gift upon your next visit!
Warmly, Amy |
Imagine a Chemical Free Childhood |
|
Every day children are exposed to an average of 27 personal care product ingredients that have not been found safe for kids, according to a national survey conducted in summer 2007 by Environmental Working Group. Overall, 77% of the ingredients in 1,700 children's products reviewed have not been assessed for safety.
A study involving almost 14,000 children was conducted to find out if there was a link between prenatal exposure to cleaning supplies and wheezing. Research showed that 10 percent of the children born into families who used cleaning products such as bleach and carpet cleaners were twice as likely to battle persistent wheezing problems than those who were exposed to cleaning products the least. Because such exposure can take place while in the womb, expectant mothers should be particularly aware of their cleaning products and exposure. Know someone that should hear this? Please pass it along! |
Soap is Safer than Detergents |

A simple change avoids a major source of skin irritants and carcinogens
You can work in a safe workplace, avoid chemials and eat healthy, yet still be exposed to thousands of potentially hazardous toxins -- throughout every minute of every day.
The impact of artificial fragrances is perhaps the most insidious toxic threat. The fragrance industry uses up to 3000 predominantly synthetic ingredients, some 900 of which were identified as toxic. Which ones hardly matters becuase the industry is not required to disclose ingredients of fragrances and perfumes on their labels due to trade secrecy considerations. No wonder my eyes hurt and my throat get scratchy after just a few minutes in the supermarket laundry aisle.
It didn't used to be this way. Since 1500 B. C. humans have utilized soap mostly derived from natural sources for most all of their cleaning needs. Prior to WWII most household cleaning tasks were accomplished using relatively safe ingredients commonly found in most homes. With the proliferation of petroleum-based chemicals after the war, corporations began to manufacture ready-made cleaning products. Most cleaning chores can be easily handled without these toxic products. Everyday ingredients like baking soda, vinegar, salt, lemon juice, vegetable oil, soap, borax, hydrogen peroxide and washing soda can do the job as they did in olden days. Laundry soaps,
available as bar soaps or flakes, are usually made from natural
minerals and fats and tend to be less toxic than conventional petroleum-based detergents that cause more household poisonings than any
other household product, (when eaten by children.)
One of our favorite products is CalBen's Seafoam All Temperature Laundry Soap -- an all natural, non-detergent laundry soap that cleans effectively without chemicals. Seaform's fresh scent is specified as coming from a natural essential oil. Purchased direct from the manufacturer, this product costs less than detergents, yet it is tough enough to clean up after our family and gentle enough for spa towels and bedding used by Amy's Skin Care. |

Cold Hands and Feet? Try Cinnamon Paprika Body Lotion -- Can't seem to warm up your hands and feet at this time of year? The reason is that our bodies go into survival mode by involuntarily drawing blood from our extremities to our inner core to protect our organs. Eminence's Cinnamon Paprika Body Lotion opens our capillaries and increases blood flow and oxygen to our cells. The added bonus when this product is used as a body lotion, is that it actively firms and detoxifies the dermal layer as it stimulates cellulite and increases elasticity.
