Off To A Great Start!
Orientation
Welcome Week and Orientation was a great success for the entire campus. The resident assistants, small group leaders, faculty and staff members helped move students into the residence halls on August 18.

Students then enjoyed residence hall activities, the annual student vs. faculty/staff softball game, ice cream social with President Ingram, activities fair, traditions night, bowling at KSU Union, and the luau party.

Student Council has chosen "Identity" as this year's theme which students will continue to learn about through chapel services and other events throughout the year. All of the activities were a great way to start off the college year!!
Seasonal Student Issues

There's a seasonal ebb and flow when it comes to student issues. Here are a few things your student may be experiencing this fall:

September:
  • Exploration and acknowledgment of personal values
  • Long distance relationship strain
  • Feeling of loneliness and homesickness may increase
  • A desire to feel connected to campus
  • Roommate adjustments

Helping your Student This Month:

  • Be involved in their life but don't overwhelm them with tons of phone calls, e-mails, or text messages
  • Encourage getting involved in a ministry or activity on campus
  • Suggest ways to incorporate physical activity into their schedule
  • Have positive, open and encouraging conversations
FERPA

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Federal Law 20 U.S.C. 1232g (FERPA) states that it is illegal for any MCC employee (faculty, staff, or work-study student) to share information about your student if he/she is over the age of 18. Thus we are unable to relase information about grades, attendance, financial information, heath/counseling or disciplinary records, etc. without permission from your student. This provides a right of privacy to student regarding their educational needs.

For more information about FERPA, refer to the college's website at: www.mccks.edu. Click on Student Life and then the Parents link.

Enjoy a special time of fellowship and fun for you and your family at this year's Family Weekend. This is a great opportunity for you to spend time together and learn about their lives on campus. You can visit the residence halls, sit in on a class, watch Crusader athletes in action, enjoy Famous Dave's BBQ, laugh out loud with entertainer and ventriloquist Taylor Mason (as seen on Last Comic Standing) and meet the friends, faculty and staff who are important in the life of your student.

There is still time to register and get your hotel room.  The deadline for registration is Friday, October 3.  For more information, a schedule of events and a list of hotels/motels or to register online go to: http://www.mccks.edu/student_life/fw08.html
