Dear Parents, Please join us this evening for our Cultural Arts Night from 6pm-7:30pm! Our specialist staff and your children have worked hard this year to show all they've accomplished! We hope that you all enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend. The band was enjoyed by all last Friday at our Memorial Day school concert and with the parade yesterday. Many thanks to Mrs. Monty, Mrs. Galardi and all of the students for a fantastic tribute to our service men and women.
It is so hard to believe how quickly this school year has passed. I can easily call to mind so many wonderful moments that will be my treasured memories of watching your children grow this year! So, with the arrival of June 1st, I am thinking of the summer and reminded of how important continued learning will be for all of the boys and girls. Children who put forth just a little bit of effort with continued reading and math skills will have a much easier transition back into the school year in the Fall. To help prepare your summer schedule and the set the expectations in your home, you've go to have the "talk". Before the last day of school, you could sit down with our children and let them know that reading and learning activities will be an important part of their summer. Assure them that they'll still have lots of play time and relaxation too (they deserve it)! As you know in many of the large department stores there are an enormous variety of books available, usually catered to specific age groups. You can set a '"due by" date to keep them on track! Crossword puzzles, math activity books and number puzzles all keep children's brains in motion. Most important for math and reading are practicing math facts and just reading everyday. If you can keep that going, you are doing a great job! You can incorporate "thinking" into traveling! If your family is able to take a vacation during the summer, include stops at at few places that sneak in learning, along with fun! Zoos, museums, and historic sites are educational as well as entertaining. For bonus learning, have your children help you plot out the trip using maps or an atlas. Older children can tally up the miles, keep track of expenses, or figure out gas mileage. There are so many terrific resources available through the libraries, the internet and our school to help you keep your children's brains thinking during the dog days of summer. Even though it takes a little bit of effort on your part, the payoff in terms of their education, is beyond measure! Have a great week! Sincerely, Kathryn Nikas, Principal
