Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!   I hope that you and your families had a lovely holiday break!

The New Year brings a sense of rebirth and renewal for many.  The New Year is a gift every year that we can all receive and give to one another.  It can be a wonderful time to reflect on personal or family goals that are important, but may be neglected or forgotten in the midst of what daily life asks of each one of us.  However, this is an opportunity that you and children can embrace as a time of reflection and a time to give another 'gift' to yourself and to those loved ones.

With this, time of year, it truly is a wonderful  opportunity for children to make a commitment to changing a habit or two!  A New Years Resolution is a promise someone would make to reform or change  an individual habit.   Children of all ages can easily learn to work on something that they identify with you as important. January brings a sense of renewal with the New Year and at school, it is a time when students academic progress is at its peak. We work hard all year, but it is at the mid-year point when students adapt to pace in the curriculum that is a bit quicker.  With this in mind, children can be encouraged to reflect on homework, reading, or math practice that could be changed or improved as a New Year's Resolution to help them with their

in-school learning.

This is the time of year that we can celebrate our families, students and colleagues, a time to forgive hurts, to assume positive intentions and  to start a new.   A time to learn from our children how we can continue to give one another the most treasured gifts  that do not have a price tag, but are invaluable.   I wish you all a Happy New Year and I look forward to what the new year will bring for all of the students in our school.

Have a lovely week!

Sincerely,

Kathryn Nikas, Principal
