| Student Drop-off Notes
|
|
It is very important that you do not enter the bus lane during either drop-off or pick-up.
No
student should be dropped-off before 8:30 am (unless attending band,
chorus, or a scheduled extra-help session). There is no supervision
available before 8:30 am.
If you arrive at school before 8:30 am, please have your child wait in the car with you until 8:30 am.
Students who enter the building early will have to wait in the lobby, but will not be supervised until 8:30 am.
From Handbook, page 20:
Telephone calls to the school during the day regarding a dismissal change should be reserved for emergencies only and cannot be accommodated after 2:15 p.m. each day due to difficulty reaching students in a timely manner. |

Dear Spofford Pond Community,
Welcome Back! I hope that you all had a fantastic summer.
First Day of School Wednesday, September 3 is the first day of school. Please note that school starts five minutes earlier than last year: 8:40am. You are welcome to park in a marked spot and walk your child into school. Also, Wednesday, September 3 is an early release at 1:15pm; lunch will be served. Thereafter, dismissal will be at 3:10pm.
Staff Notes I would like to welcome the new faces and staff changes this year. From Harry Lee Cole School come Diana Mazzaglia (Special Education), Chip Carbone (Behavior Specialist), Jessica Fuller (Assistant), and Lauren Rice (Assistant) as full-time Spofford Pond School staff. Toby Turner (Music), Pam Dalton (Art), and Margaret Costello (PE) will come from Cole one day each week. Kristin Galardi (Music) will teach at Spofford Pond four days each week and one day each week at Steward School in Topsfield. Dianne Owen comes on board as a fifth grade teacher (teaming with Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Albanesi). Susan Whittaker, Matthew Wilson, and Jennifer Norton will teach special education. Donna Morton, our reading specialist, has returned to Boxford after many years. Robin Mullen and Seana Hickey will fill the role of Speech and Language Pathologist. Cynthia Fiore joins us as the nurse two days each week. Lannie Foster will begin as the Secretary to the Principal on September 15. Finally, Kathleen Gulino and Jeff Murley will be special education assistants.

Boxford Elementary Schools Calendar Changed! In June, the Boxford School Committee voted to cancel school on Tuesday, November 4, so that the National Election will not interfere with the safe operation of the school day. We will instead hold a full day on October 31. There is an updated calendar available at the link in the sidebar.
Publication Notes The Spofford Times will be published each Monday for the entire school year. There may be special editions as warranted. If you would like your school related messages included in future issues of the Spofford Times, please email me by 5pm on Thursdays. Plain text in the body of an email is the simplest. I reserved the right to edit or deny publication of any submissions.
As always, if you need to unsubscribe from the Spofford Times, please click on the SafeUnsubscribe link at the bottom of this email.
Have a great week.
Sincerely,

From the Band Office
|
Welcome back to Spofford! I'm so excited to get to work on some great music with our current 5th and 6th Grade Band members and to introduce our Beginning Band members to the joy of ensemble playing. In anticipation of another terrific year, registration materials were mailed home last week to parents of 5th & 6th Grade Band members as well as all students entering 4th Grade. Please return the completed forms and payment to the school office as soon as possible, remembering to include your email address on the form. To be sure to receive all band communications, please add amonty@boxfordschools.org to your address list! I would also like to extend an invitation to any 5th or 6th Grade students who were not in the band last year but would now like to join our widely hailed program. Registration forms are available at school.
Members of the 5th and 6th Grade Concert Bands will begin lessons and rehearsals during the week of September 15th. All band rehearsals start promptly at 7:30 am. 6th Grade Concert Band rehearsals are held every Monday and Thursday morning. 5th Grade Concert Band rehearsals are held every Tuesday and Friday morning. Once chosen, members of our select 6th Grade Jazz Band will rehearse on Wednesday mornings. I hope that all band members are ready to gear up for another spectacular year of performances including the Winter and Spring Concerts at Masconomet, the Boxford Memorial Day Parade and our concert at the Pawtucket Red Sox. The 6th Grade Concert and Jazz Bands will also prepare for the Senior Citizen's Concert and Luncheon and a performance at the State House in Boston and perhaps some other exciting opportunities that come our way.
All 4th Grade students will attend a school assembly on Friday, September 5th to introduce the instruments that are played in our Beginning Band program. If your child will be participating in the Instrumental program, please return the Instrument Choice form by Monday, September 8th. Receipt of this form and your band fee payment will enable me to schedule your child for weekly instrumental lessons which begin the week of September 15th. Every student must have an instrument in good working condition in order to begin lessons and you may purchase or rent this instrument anywhere. On Tuesday, September 9th at 6:30pm, I will hold a brief meeting for parents of new band members to tell you about our program and answer any questions you may have. In addition, the Music & Arts company will be there to explain and sign up anyone interested in their "Rent-to-Own" program. They will have instruments for you to take home at that time. As always, you are not required to use their services; we offer this only as a convenience to you.
Mrs. Sandy Drohosky and Mrs. Jenny Noonan have volunteered as this year's Band Parent Coordinators. They will be spearheading our November Poinsettia sale as well as other volunteer efforts throughout the year. You will be hearing more from them at a Band Parents meeting in October and we hope that you will find a way to become personally involved in our program.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you soon! As always, should you have any questions or concerns about your child's participation in our Instrumental Program, please don't hesitate to contact me at Spofford Pond by phone, (978) 352-8616 ext.147) or email, amonty@boxfordschools.org
