Civilized Debauchery* February 2011 |
______________________________
Wine is the most civilized thing in the world {Hemingway} We have a wonderful wine supplier who discovers bottles of wine and other spirits that please the palate, have an interesting story, and aren't easily found other places in town. Our goal is to make life easier for you, our customer, by offering a broad selection: an expensive bottle of celebratory Champagne, a conversation starting bottle of wine for dinner with friends, or an unusual beer to surprise someone at home! Currently on our shelf is a fabulous 2005 Vargellas Vintage Port from Taylor Fladgate. This complex port, still trodden by foot, is delicious now (we love it with chocolate) and it will age well. On our "Ten for Ten!" shelf (that's right, ten bottles at $10.00 each, selection varies) is a lovely bottle of California Chardonnay from the Five Rivers Winery, charmingly dedicated to The Goddess of Water. As an invitation to get to know our spirit shelves, we would like to offer the gift of ten-percent off with the purchase of any three bottles during the month of February. We're now open seven days a week, so come in any day for some civilized indulgences.
The Quel Fromage crew *Where's the debauchery, you ask? We leave that to you...

______________________________ Sweet Things You Asked, We listened
We searched high and low to find a source for the deliciously decadent chocolate covered brandy ganache filled dried Spanish figs that you love so much! We now have them back in the convenient single size wrapped in gold foil, beautiful as a gift or personal indulgence. |
______________________________ Fromage Casatica di Bufala As a patron of Quel Fromage you are undoubtedly accustomed to the familiar silhouette of cow, goat, sheep, or some combination of the three adorning our cheese descriptions. At the moment the cheese cases are blessed with two "silhouette-less" descriptions for the delightful water-buffalo milk cheeses from the Gritti brothers in Northern Italy: Quadrello di Buffala and Casatica di Bufala. The newest arrival is the Casatica, it is soft and custardy. The Gritti brothers are using the especially rich milk of the water-buffalo (even higher in fat content than sheep's milk) and expanding beyond the traditional Southern Italian Mozzarella di Buffala. Yummy and unique!

______________________________ Charcuterie Heaven A must try delicacy Have you heard the buzz about Spain's Fermin Lomo Iberico Bellota? The Iberico pig wanders free in the dehesas, feeding on fallen acorns (bellota) for three months prior to slaughter. The result is a uniquely sweet and nutty marbled meat marinated in a blend of pimenton, oregano, olive oil, and sea salt. It has been aged for a minimum of five months in the mountains of Northwestern Spain. Let us slice a few extra thin slices of this traditional dry pork loin for a delightful taste treat! |
