_____________________________ Embracing Italy Formaggio Style
August begins with a fresh batch of Buffalo Mozzarella, straight from Italy and designated DOP (meaning the real deal: traditional methods, made in its original location). It's available now, and with local tomatoes finally showing their summery faces, this is the cheese to enjoy with them. *If you also know what's good for you, you'll keep your eye out for our fresh order of Burrata coming in the second week of the month! Let us know if you'd like a reserved tub. |
_____________________________ Sweet Bites Local Macarons We're thrilled to bring you a new local creation. Inspired by the classic French macaron, Bellingham-based Pure Bliss Desserts is now making us adorable little almond macarons with chocolate ganache filling.
They're light and sweet with a rich taste of dark chocolate, and it doesn't hurt one bit that they're naturally gluten-free! |
_____________________________ Tartines French Finger Food
Not too far from bruschetta or other cultures' open-faced sandwiches (as the English language un-creatively refers to them), the French tartine has been on my mind lately.
The attractive qualities of tartines include their ease of preparation, attractive presentation, and flexibility as a snack, appetizer, or light lunch. Wanting to avoid the heat of the oven and feast on lighter fare, they're all I desire to eat this August. Get your hands on a baguette, brioche, or rustic seeded loaf, perhaps toasted, and the possibilities are endless. Here are a few running through my head:
- Terre des Volcans, Chopped Hazelnuts, Honey
- Chive Herb Butter, Thin Sliced Radishes, Reggiano, Māche[pictured]
- Fromage Blanc, Fresh Fig Slices, Manchego
- Chicken Liver Mousse, l'Edel de Cléron, Peach Wedges
