Detroit, Fisher Building Store
New reduced days and hours during the Heart and Heat of Summer:
The reduction in hours applies to the Fisher Building ONLY
July 6-August 17, 2010
OPEN: Friday 11AM-8PM Saturday 10AM-4PM
Our beloved, grand Fisher Building was not built for air-conditioning. Our add-on system with once through cooling water is very wasteful of resources and energy. Last year we took a two week vacation during the off-season, this year we are taking another approach. After deep consideration and much debate we have selected the following schedule for the period between July 6th-August 17th, 2010:
On Friday, the Fisher Building store hours will stay the same 11AM-8PM. We will have a teacher available to work with students from 12Noon-4PM. Friday Night Knits with Linda will continue as usual and uninterrupted. The Saturday hours and class schedule will continue exactly as before...same staff, classes and service. Group and Special events at the Fisher Building continue to be possible during this time.
Contact Amy H. admin@cityknits.com to set up a special group excursion.
During this time the Mt. Clemens location will be open Monday-Saturday regular hours. The friendly, competent staff are eager to help with all your yarn/stitching & technical support needs.

Stitchin' in the "D"
Sunday Sizzles Summer Stichin" in the"D" at Riverwalk Park/Cafe Who: Open to the public All those who love the needle arts, not just
knit or crochet (embroider, tat, spin, etc.) Come share your passion,
talent and expertise in Detroit.
When: Starts this Sunday, June 29, 2010. 12NOON-4PM Sundays
Where: Riverwalk Cafe (In case of rain, the group will meet at the DIA in the CafeDIA. Easiest access on Farnsworth. DIA is free to City of Detroit residents.)
How: Need some help?
Knitting help is from 12-2PM (Dyanne and/or Desiree) and Crochet 2-4pm (Nozibele). $5.00
There is a mission: This group would very much like to start a stitching guild with-in the City of Detroit. Members have not yet found a guild/group that embraces the needle arts in the city. Bring your suggestions and support to work collaboratively to accomplish this goal. Embroiderers, tatters, and spinners wanted with experience to share.
While many of those presently involved are City Knits teachers or students, this event is designed to benefit the community at large. Special care and consideration has been given to make sure all efforts are inclusive of all needle related workers in our city at large and the greater community - not an establishment or enterprise.

Tech Tips:
Brenda suggests inserting cardboard into the plastic sleeve of your pattern to prevent crumpling, floating off your lap.
Zuki Yarns rep. tells me she uses the foot of old panti-hose when ever she can't find a "yarn bra" to keep slippery yarns from turning into a big tangle, whether in storage or during knitting.
Amy recommends that sock knitters take the time to make a swatch. Well, other than the obvious reason related to guage.....when you've invested that much time and love into socks - why let a hole or run at the toe ruin a cherished friend. Save your swatch and pull it out, even years later, to fix the hole. Darning is a lost art, one worth trying.
